The Bail Project has paid more than $26 million in bail. The group says it has bailed out more than 12,000 suspected criminals. Who are these people? They’re people like Samuel Lee Scott of Chicago. Scott was in jail facing assault charges for punching his wife. After he hit her, he reportedly said he, quote, “might as well finish what (he) started since (she) was going to contact the police.” The Bail Project then came to the rescue. Hours after the group sprung him from jail, Scott allegedly beat his wife to death.
