ANOTHER SAD SPECTACLE AT DUKE UNIVERSITY

Another sad spectacle at Duke University

University commencement speakers took the stage this past weekend to advise students of the Class of 2022 now ready to join the real world.  I observed the commencement ceremony at Duke University, as my niece graduated magna cum laude.  As a Duke alumna myself, I was proud of her: half of her college experience was marred by extreme COVID lockdown policies, yet she remained focused, worked hard, and earned her accomplishments.  My extended family — which included several Duke grads and employees — settled atop Wallace Wade stadium, bracing unseasonably cold weather, awaiting the commencement speakers’ advice to the next generation.

The featured Duke commencement speaker was General Motors CEO Mary Barra.  She spoke of five lessons from the kitchen table.  I appreciated her speech and humble advice, especially grateful that she did not receive the memo that the words “diversity” and “equity” are crucial features of modern-day academic discourse.  Unfortunately, her grounded advice will be overshadowed by the student commencement speech preceding it.

Prior to Ms. Barra’s speech, the chosen Duke undergraduate student speaker spoke of a “Duke Nation.”  The Duke senior described the idea that if a moat existed around Duke, “[Duke] could be its own tiny island nation like Cuba or Sri Lanka.”  “Cuba?” I thought at the time.  “Well, that probably isn’t a terrible comparison when you really think about the communist collectivism on campuses.”  The remaining speech contained citizenship metaphors, passport allusions, and a “world of experiences.”

THE EXASPERATED AMERICAN – VICTOR DAVIS HANSON

The Exasperated American

Will the voters channel their furor at this regime of lies into an unprecedented turnout at the polls in
November ?
By Victor Davis Hanson   May 9, 2022

A large majority of Americans now have no confidence in Joe Biden and his administration, which often polls below 40 percent, with negatives nearing 60 percent.

Despite the 15-month catastrophe of his regime, the level of his own unpopularity remains understandable but still remarkable. After all, in 2020 voters already knew well of his cognitive deficits and the radicalism of his agenda. They saw both clearly starting in 2019 and during the 2020 Democratic primaries, the primary debates, and the general election.

So what did Biden’s voters imagine would happen when a cognitively challenged president, controlled by hard-Left subordinates, entered office—other than what he has done?

Luke Rosiak: Schools Use Woke Ideology to Hide Dismal Teacher Performance, Harming Minorities the Most

“It is baked into the way that these schools operate to devalue academic achievement because they don’t want a paper trail of how they’re failing your kids,” says Luke Rosiak, an investigative reporter at the Daily Wire and author of “Race to the Bottom: Uncovering the Secret Forces Destroying American Public Education.”

Even before the pandemic hit, 66 percent of American 4th graders were scoring less than Proficient on the Nation’s Report Card assessment.

As minority students fall behind, schools in America are abolishing standardized tests, A-B-C-D-F grading scales, and entrance exams.

“In pursuit of equity, they have stopped measuring things. They started cooking the books. They started orienting everything around the lowest common denominator. And the result is really devastating for society,” Rosiak say

BOOK REVIEW: RECESSIONAL: THE DEATH OF FREE SPEECH AND THE COST OF A FREE LUNCH

Monday, April 11th, 2022
BOOK REVIEW – FEATURED ON  Life, Liberty & Levin

Recessional: The Death of Free Speech and the Cost of a Free Lunch Hardcover – April 5, 2022

by David Mamet  (Author)

“Savagery appeased can only grow. Once you give in to it, it must escalate, like a fire searching for air.”

The man who won the Pulitzer Prize for GLENGARRY GLEN ROSS, who wrote the classic films THE VERDICT and WAG THE DOG sounds his alarm about the Visigoths at our gates.

In RECESSIONAL he calls out, skewers, mocks, and, most importantly, dissects the virus of conformity which is now an existential threat to the West.

A broad-ranging journey through history, the Bible, and literature, RECESSIONAL examines how politics and cultural attitudes about rebellion have shifted in the United States in the last generation. By screaming down freedom of thought and expression, Mamet explains, we kill invention and democracy – the foundations of security and growth.

A wickedly funny, wistful and wry appeal to the free-thinking citizen, RECESSIONAL is a vital warning that if we don’t confront the cultural thuggery now, the commissars and their dupes will transform the Land of the Free into the dictatorship at which they aim.

SECOND NORTH CAROLINA SCHOOL KEEPS ‘GENDER’ CHANGING FROM PARENTS

Thursday, April 7th, 2022

More North Carolina Schools Plan to Keep “Gender” Changing a Secret From Parents.

A second district developed a plan to pair children with adults in schools to support minors as they change their “genders.”

By: Sloan Rachmuth

New Hannover County schools are allowing teachers to hide circumstances where children change their gender at school, according to documents obtained by Education First Alliance.

The district, which includes Wilmington and Carolina Beach, developed a “gender support plan” back in 2020 which asks teachers to establish a “shared understanding” about how to support a child’s “authentic gender” at school.

On a scale of 1-10, teachers rank how supportive they think the parents of a child who wants to change their gender are. Then a plan is asked for dealing with unsupportive parents during the “gender change” process. In addition, the form asks teachers to identify an adult at the school who would provide support to the gender-bending student.

Here’s Some Of The Garbage Democrats Funded As ‘Covid Relief’
APRIL 04, 2022
EXCERPT FROM THIS ARTICLE:
As the nation’s debt has passed $30 trillion and inflation continues to skyrocket, federal funds are being used to fund four-star hotels and bailouts for deadbeat dads.
“$1 million to pay off overdue child support in St. Louis. A city memo states that owing child support stops some people from looking for work because the overdue payments are garnished from paychecks; the program would ‘empower individuals’ by paying down a portion.” Translation: St. Louis is bailing out deadbeat dads who have skipped out on their obligations to their children—a fine way to teach responsible parenting.
$300,000 for a museum in Worcester, Massachusetts honoring a famous African American bicycle rider from the turn of the last century.
$5 million for the 2022 World Games in Birmingham, which “features niche sporting contests such as DanceSport, korfball, and flying disc.”
$2 million to purchase a ski area in Pottawattamie County, Iowa.
“$6.6 million to replace irrigation systems at two golf courses in Colorado Springs.”
“$2.5 million to hire new parking enforcement officers in Washington, DC.” As a District resident, I particularly “appreciate” this “investment”—because if there’s one thing Washington needs, it’s more government bureaucrats levying arbitrary fines.
A $12 million renovation for a minor league baseball stadium in Dutchess County, New York.
$5 million from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts “to pay off the debts of the Edward M. Kennedy Institute for the U.S. Senate in Boston, a nonprofit established to honor the late senator that has struggled financially.”
$15 million in New Jersey to fund upgrades “to sweeten the state’s bid to host the 2026 World Cup.”
$53,000 to renovate City Hall in Woonsocket, Rhode Island.
Tens of millions of dollars for tourist marketing campaigns—as if people who felt uncomfortable traveling during Covid need any more incentive to take a much-needed vacation.
$140 million to fund a 29-story, 800-room hotel in Broward County, Florida that the county will own while a private company will manage. (Why a county has any business owning a hotel is anyone’s guess.) To get around a federal prohibition on using the “Covid relief” money for large capital projects, the county commissioners transferred the federal aid to the county’s general fund, then transferred general fund dollars to the project. If anyone in the private sector tried a gimmick like this, he would get arrested for money laundering—but it’s all in a day’s work for government entities maximizing the cash they can squeeze out of Washington.
