SILENCING THE LOCKDOWN SKEPTIC

Monday, May 18th, 2020

THE WALL STREET JOURNAL
The Lockdown Skeptic They Couldn’t Silence
By Allysia Finley   Ms Finley is a member of the Journal’s editorial board  May 16, 2020

Does a pandemic demand the strong medicine of censorship? Social-media companies seem to think so. They’re taking steps to control speech in the name of combating the spread of medical misinformation. Facebook employs “fact checkers” to review posts, makes those that don’t pass their test harder to find, and directs users to purportedly reliable sources like the World Health Organization. YouTube has taken down videos it deems inconsistent with science. Twitter plans to add warning labels to tweets that don’t pass muster with “subject-matter experts, such as public health authorities.”

Aaron Ginn’s story is a cautionary tale that even well-intended censorship can overreach, suppressing the search for truth. Mr. Ginn, 32, is the Silicon Valley technologist who posted an essay on March 20 titled “Evidence over hysteria—COVID-19” on the Medium website. Citing academic research and government data, Mr. Ginn argued that public-health experts were focusing too much on “flattening the curve . . . while ignoring the economic shock to our system” of shuttering businesses and schools and ordering Americans to stay home.

“When 13% of Americans believe they are currently infected with COVID-19 (mathematically impossible),” he wrote, “full-on panic is blocking our ability to think clearly and determine how to deploy our resources to stop this virus.” The message was well-timed—the day he posted it, Gov. Andrew Cuomo ordered “nonessential” New York businesses to close.

Mr. Ginn’s essay drew 2.6 million page views in 24 hours—and a barrage of liberal criticism. Carl T. Bergstrom, a University of Washington biologist, called it “Shakespeare run through google translate into Japanese, then translated back to English by someone who’d never heard of Shakespeare.” Then Medium took it down, saying it violated rules under a “risk analysis framework we use for ‘Controversial, Suspect and Extreme content.’ ”

FACEBOOK APPOINTS MUSLIM BROTHERHOOD SUPPORTER TO OVERSIGHT BOARD

I don’t think this is going to end well !  Nancy
CLARION PROJECT
FACEBOOK APPOINTS MUSLIM BROTHERHOOD SUPPORTER TO NEW OVERSIGHT BOARD
By  Meira Svirsky   May 13, 2020
EXCERPT FROM THIS ARTICLE: Besides her obvious biases and affiliation with the Muslim Brotherhood — a group whose ideology has spawned the most violent terror groups of our time and perpetrates terror itself – Karman is known for blocking from her own social media accounts anyone who disagrees with her.

A person who is so clearly intent on shutting down dialogue while holding extremist views is hardly a welcome candidate for deciding for the rest of us which posts on social media giants Facebook and Instagram should see the light of day or be censored.

Facebook appointed a Muslim Brotherhood operative to its new oversight board which is tasked with reviewing posts on Facebook and Instagram to make sure they are not violating “community standards.”

The appointment of Tawakkol Karman, a former leading figure in the Yemini Al Islah (Muslim Brotherhood) party, was welcomed by the Council of American-Islamic Relation’s (CAIR) Los Angeles director Hussam Ayloush (who himself recommends the U.S. should embrace the Hamas terrorist group).

Just a year ago, Karman wrote on Facebook, “The Muslim Brotherhood movement will remain an anti-tyranny and a freedom fighting movement, despite Trump’s nose and Trump’s agents and it is one of the victims of tyranny and official terrorism in the region, for which Trump provides all support and support.”

Here are some highlights from an extensive profile of Karman as reported by the Investigative Project on Terrorism:

  • During the popular uprising against former Egyptian President and Islamist Mohammed Morsi, Karman initially called on Morsi to resign and for General al-Sisi to form an interim government. However, she ended up joining the violent Morsi supporters in the Rabaa camp and has since been barred from entering Egypt. She now calls Morsi “the last of the prophets.”
  • She initially supported the Saudi campaign in Yemen to rid the country of the Iranian-backed Houthi rebels, but later turned against the Saudis, accusing them of wanting to “occupy Yemen and steal its wealth” as well as “spread their influence.”“[The Saudi’s want] to make Yemen a failed state,” she now says. Her accusations against the Saudis caused her own Al Islah party to suspend her membership in 2018.

VICTOR DAVIS HANSON – MEMBERS OF PREVIOUS GENERATIONS NOW SEEM LIKE GIANTS

Past vs. Present

Victor Davis Hanson column: Members of previous generations now seem like giants

Oct 9, 2019

www.richmond.com/opinion/columnists/victor-davis-hanson-column-members-of-previous-generations-now-seem-like-giants/article_bca413bb-5505-5ee9-8ed8-86a25e4f57a9.html

Many of the stories about the gods and heroes of Greek mythology were compiled during the Greek Dark Ages. Impoverished tribes passed down oral traditions that originated after the fall of the lost palatial civilizations of the Mycenaean Greeks.

Dark Age Greeks tried to make sense of the massive ruins of their forgotten forbearers’ monumental palaces that were still standing around. As illiterates, they were curious about occasional clay tablets they plowed up in their fields with incomprehensible ancient Linear B inscriptions.

We of the 21st century are beginning to look back at our own lost epic times and wonder about these now-nameless giants who left behind monuments that we cannot replicate, but instead merely use or even mock.

Does anyone believe that contemporary Americans could build another transcontinental railroad in six years?

Californians tried to build a high-speed rail line. But after more than a decade of government incompetence, lawsuits, cost overruns and constant bureaucratic squabbling, they have all but given up.

The result is a half-built overpass over the skyline of Fresno — and not yet a foot of track laid.

Who were those giants of the 1960s responsible for building our interstate highway system?

California’s roads now are mostly the same as we inherited them, although the state population has tripled. We have added little to our freeway network, either because we forgot how to build good roads or would prefer to spend the money on redistributive entitlements.

When California had to replace a quarter section of the earthquake-damaged San Francisco Bay Bridge, it turned into a near-disaster, with 11 years of acrimony, fighting, cost overruns — and a commentary on our decline into Dark Ages primitivism. Yet 82 years ago, our ancestors built four times the length of our single replacement span in less than four years.

It took them just two years to design the entire Bay Bridge and award the contracts.

Our generation required five years just to plan to replace a single section. In inflation-adjusted dollars, we spent six times the money on a quarter of the length of the bridge and required 13 agencies to grant approval. In 1936, just one agency oversaw the entire bridge project.

CHARLIE KIRK’S NEW BOOK – ‘THE MAGA DOCTRINE:  THE ONLY IDEAS THAT WILL WIN THE FUTURE’

The MAGA Doctrine: The Only Ideas That Will Win the Future Hardcover – March 3, 2020

by Charlie Kirk  (Author)    BOOK REVIEW

The movement that brought Donald Trump to the White House has better ideas than the old right or the new left. It’s time that the rest of America started listening.

The Tea Party began as a protest for patriots who feared Big Government. President Trump has become a hero for patriots who are against Big Everything.

Fed up with Silicon Valley, the media, liberal higher education, the military-industrial complex, Twitter mobs, swamp monsters, Big Pharma, out-of-control prosecutors, and gun-grabbing fascists, ordinary Americans miss the days when America cared about rule of the people, by the people, and for the people. Remember when you didn’t feel bombarded on all sides by coastal billionaires and their government stooges? The MAGA Doctrine urges an overdue restoration of self-rule by a populace long taken for granted by its rulers.

Turning Point USA founder and social media superstar Charlie Kirk explains once and for all why a New York real estate magnate found an audience among young conservatives all over the country. Trump and his allies are working to protect all the small things that both parties dismissed: local businesses, families, churches, and the rights of the individual. Kirk explains why it took a reality TV superstar to see past the sclerotic and power-hungry institutions, from the United Nations and Google to Harvard and Viacom, working to crush real America. The Trump Doctrine is all about giving you a say in the future of America and a hand in making it happen.

As the mainstream media keep churning out lies about the “real reasons” behind the new conservative agenda, Charlie Kirk’s The MAGA Doctrine is a powerful reminder of the true narrative of freedom and greatness that swept Donald Trump to the presidency.

Make Architecture Great Again

Washington, D.C., is a melange of architecture that makes little sense. Some of it is Roman, (the Supreme Court, the Capitol Building, etc.), some of it is French (namely, the Eisenhower Executive Office Building), and the rest is downright ugly.

The Trump administration wants to change that. A draft of an executive order entitled “Making Federal Buildings Beautiful Again” would make classical Roman and Greek architecture the default for new federal buildings in Washington.

Spearheaded by the National Civic Art Society, the order attempts to restore Washington’s aesthetic and do away with the damage wrought by contemporary architecture, which has “created a built environment that is degraded and dehumanizing,” the society said.

GOOGLE AMASSES PERSONAL MEDICAL RECORDS

Google Amasses Personal Medical Records

Company teams up with one of the U.S.’s largest health systems in ‘Project Nightingale’

BY ROB COPELAND   November 12, 2019

Google is engaged with one of the U.S.’s largest health-care systems on a project to collect and crunch the detailed personal- health information of millions of people across 21 states.

The initiative, code-named “Project Nightingale,” appears to be the biggest effort yet by a Silicon Valley giant to gain a toehold in the health-care industry through the handling of patients’ medical data. Amazon. com Inc., Apple Inc. and Microsoft Corp. are also aggressively pushing into health care, though they haven’t yet struck deals of this scope.

Google began Project Nightingale in secret last year with St. Louis-based Ascension, a Catholic chain of 2,600 hospitals, doctors’ offices and other facilities, with the data sharing accelerating since summer, according to internal documents.

The data involved in the initiative encompasses lab results, doctor diagnoses and hospitalization records, among other categories, and amounts to a complete health history, including patient names and dates of birth.

Neither patients nor doctors have been notified. At least 150 Google employees already have access to much of the data on tens of millions of patients, according to a person familiar with the matter and

the documents.

In a news release issued after The Wall Street Journal reported on Project Nightingale on Monday, the companies said the initiative is compliant with federal health law and includes robust protections for patient data.

Some Ascension employees have raised questions about the way the data is being collected and shared, both from a technological and ethical perspective, according to the people familiar with the project. But privacy experts said it appeared to be permissible under federal law. That law, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996, generally allows hospitals to share data with business partners without telling patients, as long as the information is used “only to help the covered entity carry out its health care functions.”

“POWER GRAB” THE LEFT’S LUCRATIVE NONPROFITS

Sunday, September 8th, 2019

The Left’s Lucrative Nonprofits

by Kimberly A. Strassel

This article originally appeared in the Wall Street Journal on September 5, 2019.

This year’s Democratic presidential candidates have a favorite whipping boy: “powerful interests.” Get ready to hear again in coming weeks how the National Rifle Association rules Washington, how the Koch empire dominates politics, how the right is pouring “dark money” into its agenda. And then remember that these are among the biggest whoppers of the 2020 election. One side will do battle with the aid of a huge and savvy nonprofit political empire—and it isn’t the right. Though the sooner Republicans understand that, the better.

A helpful tutorial arrived this week,
“Power Grab,” a new book by Republican former Rep. Jason Chaffetz of Utah. Mr. Chaffetz has been digging into nonprofits since his time as House Oversight Committee chairman, and the book details how powerful the liberal nonprofit sector has grown. It may surprise many Americans—those who read daily stories about conservative “influence”—that the likes of the NRA, Judicial Watch and the National Organization for Marriage barely rank by comparison to the assets and revenue of Planned Parenthood, the American Civil Liberties Union or the Nature Conservancy.

These aren’t only big political players; they’re the biggest political players. In 2018 the nonprofit watchdog Capital Research Center analyzed grants handed out in the 2014 election year by six big foundations on the right (including the Bradley and Charles Koch foundations) versus six on the left (including the Open Society and Tides foundations). Liberal public-policy charities, organized under chapter 501(c)(3) of the tax code, bagged $7.4 billion of this foundation money in 2014. For conservative charities, the figure was a mere $2.2 billion. That $7.4 billion also dwarfed total 2013-14 campaign receipts to federal, state and local campaigns ($4.1 billion) and spending that cycle by independent groups ($830 million).

Did President Trump call neo-Nazis “very fine people” during a famous press conference following the Charlottesville riots of August 2017? The major media reported that he did. But what if their reporting is wrong? Worse, what if their reporting is wrong and they know it’s wrong? A straight exploration of the facts should reveal the truth. That’s what CNN political analyst Steve Cortes does in this critically important video.

CLINTON INVESTIGATOR COMMITTED SUICIDE IN NIGHTCLUB

Tuesday, July 30th, 2019

Clinton investigator shot dead in nightclub (FBI says suicide)

thehornnews.com/clinton-investigator-shot-dead-in-nightclub-fbi-says-suicide/

The FBI is mourning the death of longtime agent Salvatore “Sal” Cincinelli, 41, a top financial crimes investigator.

Cincinelli reportedly died of at least one gunshot wound in the middle of a crowded Texas nightclub during a night out with colleagues.

Cincinelli was an FBI special agent that spearheaded many of the bureau’s highest-profile financial investigations. In his nine years of service, Cincinelli had headed up investigations into Wall Street banks as well as the finances of the Clinton Foundation. A native New Yorker, Cincinelli reportedly gave up a high-paying Wall Street banking career in 2010 to devote his life to the FBI.

According to eyewitnesses, a number of FBI agents had gathered at the trendy Container Bar in Austin, Texas on Jul. 16 for a night of drinking and dancing. Late in the evening, Cincinelli allegedly turned a gun on himself and committed suicide in the middle of the crowded dance floor. The FBI has not commented on Cincinelli’s death.

The FBI agents on site instructed witnesses to delete any video and photographs they had of the evening and had the bar cleared out, reports say. Austin police were also reportedly instructed to remain silent on the details, and nightclub employees were told to “stay offline” and “keep quiet” about what they saw.

The New York Daily News reports that Cincinelli’s sister, Valerie Cincinelli, is currently awaiting trial in a murder-for-hire plot in New York City.

“Valerie, accused of plotting to kill her estranged husband and her boyfriend’s teen daughter, was a 12-year NYPD veteran when she was arrested two months ago in the twin murder schemes,” The New York Daily News reported on Jul. 24. “Her boyfriend John DiRubba ratted Cincinelli out to the FBI and cooperated with investigators in the sting operation that landed her in handcuffs.”

Valerie was apparently very close to her brother, Sal.

“She is absolutely devastated by the passing of her brother and best friend, and this is certainly adding to the stress of her current situation,” defense lawyer James Kousouros told The New York Post.

Sal Cincinelli was a Supervisory Special Agent at the FBI’s Complex Financial Crimes Unit at the time of his death.

He was profiled by Reuters in 2012 as part of an article on FBI special agents that gave up lucrative careers in the financial sector to investigate financial misconduct.

“Very very bright guy,” one FBI insider told True Pundit. “Such a young guy, it really gets you in the gut. He put in the hours too, was always working hard.”
