What does it mean to be tolerant? The dictionary defines tolerance as respect for opinions, beliefs, and practices that differ from your own. But in our polarized cultural climate, it has come to mean something else entirely. Greg Koukl, president of Stand to Reason and author of Tactics, sorts it all out.

RETHINKING DRAG QUEEN STORY HOUR

Saturday, February 22nd, 2020

WASHINGTON EXAMINER

Rethinking Drag Queen Story Hour

Librarians love Drag Queen Story Hour. Many parents don’t.

The concept of having drag queens read to children has the backing of the American Library Association, the oldest and largest library association in the world. Yet the five-year-old trend has set off controversies in local libraries across the United States, and some families feel as if their opinions on the subject don’t matter.

A Missouri lawmaker wants to put parents back in the picture.

The “Parental Oversight of Public Libraries Act,” a bill introduced last month by state Rep. Ben Baker, would require each library in Missouri to have “a parental library review board” made up of five adults in the community. The purpose of the board would be to “determine whether any sexual material provided to the public by the public library is age-inappropriate sexual material.”

“The most support I have received has been from parents who are concerned about the well-being of their children, as well as local government officials who have been ignored when they speak out against certain content and events that have been allowed in our libraries,” Baker said in an email.

Critics have focused on a section at the end of the bill, which specifies that those who defy it could be subject to “a fine of not more than five hundred dollars” or “imprisonment in the county jail not to exceed one year.”

THE AGONY OF THE DEMOCRATS

Saturday, February 15th, 2020

Far Left Liberalism has itself to blame for  being the cause of the appeal of Bernie Sanders.  The Democrat Party now has to contend with the possibility of Bernie being their nominee.  Guess they really didn’t mean for the voters to take their extreme far left policies seriously !   Nancy

THE WALL STREET JOURNAL

The Agony of the Democrats

Bernie Sanders is riding the intellectual currents that the party and its elites have nurtured.

By the Editorial Board   February 15, 2020

Bernie Sanders’s victory in New Hampshire on top of his tie in Iowa makes him a favorite for the Democratic presidential nomination. Hard to believe, but in a winnable race against President Trump the opposition may nominate a socialist who wants the government to control energy production and health care, who wants nationwide rent control, and who calls America a “racist society from top to bottom.” No wonder Democrats like James Carville are in agony.

The Vermont revolutionary’s victory portends a long primary battle, unless Democratic voters elevate a single mainstream candidate who can challenge him. Mr. Sanders will get his 25% to 30% primary after primary, racking up delegates on his way to the convention. If other candidates keep dividing the other votes, he will be hard to stop, as Mr. Trump was for Republicans in 2016. Even if a single alternative emerges, Mr. Sanders won’t go down without a ferocious intra-party fight.

***

How did this happen? How did Mr. Sanders move from the socialist fringe to the brink of controlling the Democratic Party? The Senator’s dogged persistence across decades and especially the last four years is part of the explanation.

Yet Mr. Sanders wouldn’t be this close to the White House if not for the complicity of Democrats and the liberals who dominate the academy and media. Rather than fighting the ideas that animate him and his millennial voters, they have indulged and promoted them. They created the political environment in which he could prosper. Consider the intellectual currents he is riding:

CULTURE ROT – DISGRACEFUL HALF-TIME SUPER BOWL SHOW

Tuesday, February 4th, 2020

Not only were the kids in cages (this was done during the Obama Administration), but the dancing was lewd and distasteful, especially since children of all ages were watching this Super Bowl half time show.  I hope enough people complain so more thought will be put into next year’s halftime show that will be  more appropriate for all ages, including the children !   Nancy

BUTTIGIEGS’ FATHER WAS A MARXIST PROFESSOR WHO LAUDED THE COMMUNIST MANIFESTO

Monday, December 16th, 2019

Please note that this article was written in April.  Why weren’t the Republicans mentioning this “minor detail” about Buttigieg months  ago ?    Nancywww.washingtonexaminer.com/news/pete-buttigiegs-father-was-a-marxist-professor-who-lauded-the-communist-manifesto   THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER

Pete Buttigieg’s father was a Marxist professor who lauded the Communist Manifesto

by Emily Larsen & Joseph Simonson | April 02, 2019

The father of Democratic presidential hopeful Pete Buttigieg was a Marxist professor who spoke fondly of the Communist Manifesto and dedicated a significant portion of his academic career to the work of Italian Communist Party founder Antonio Gramsci, an associate of Vladimir Lenin.

Joseph Buttigieg, who died in January at the age of 71, immigrated to the U.S. in the 1970s from Malta and in 1980 joined the University of Notre Dame faculty, where he taught modern European literature and literary theory. He supported an updated version of Marxism that jettisoned some of Marx and Engel’s more doctrinaire theories, though he was undoubtedly Marxist.

He was an adviser to Rethinking Marxism, an academic journal that published articles “that seek to discuss, elaborate, and/or extend Marxian theory,” and a member of the editorial collective of Boundary 2, a journal of postmodern theory, literature, and culture. He spoke at many Rethinking Marxism conferences and other gatherings of prominent Marxists.

In a 2000 paper for Rethinking Marxism critical of the approach of Human Rights Watch, Buttigieg, along with two other authors, refers to “the Marxist project to which we subscribe.”

In 1998, he wrote in an article for the Chronicle of Higher Education about an event in New York City celebrating the 150th anniversary of the Manifesto. He also participated in the event.

“If The Communist Manifesto was meant to liberate the proletariat, the Manifesto itself in recent years needed liberating from Marxism’s narrow post-Cold War orthodoxies and exclusive cadres. It has been freed,” he wrote.

GRATITUDE TOWARDS AMERICA – TREVOR LOUDON

Friday, December 6th, 2019

A Personal Note:  Years ago, while my husband and I were living in Sydney, Australia, we were having dinner at a restaurant when the waiter came over to our table and gave us a bottle of champagne.  The waiter explained that the gentleman at another table had recognized that we were Americans and he wanted  to thank us  for The Battle of the Coral Sea.   A very special moment that I will never forget. This article was written by Trevor Loudon and he explains why he feels such gratitude to the United States .  It is because of our help to Australia and New Zealand during the Second World War.  Nancy

My Thanksgiving to America

CONTRIBUTOR
December 2, 2019

Over the Thanksgiving period, I pondered a lot on my debt to America. The first thing I owe this great country is probably my very existence. When growing up in 1960s New Zealand, it was accepted wisdom that we owed our freedom and our very lives to the “Yanks.”

In 1942, tens of thousands of young Kiwi and Aussie men were in North Africa fighting the Nazis and the Italian Fascist armies. The Japanese Imperial Army was marching relentlessly through the South Pacific and South East Asia. The Philippines fell; Hong Kong, Singapore, the Dutch East Indies, New Guinea, all were invaded in a matter of months, capturing thousands of British, Dutch, and colonial troops in the process.

The Japanese air force bombed Darwin in Northern Australia. There were reports of Japanese submarines in New Zealand harbors. In 1942, 22 New Zealand prisoners of war were beheaded by the Japanese on Tarawa. In 1943, Japanese prisoners rioted at a prisoner of war camp in our little North Island town of Featherston. More than 30 Japanese and one New Zealand guard were killed before order was restored. Rumors flew that the Japanese had already printed up the currency they were going to use when they invaded us.
