President Obama has done the country a favor: He has given a hint of what his second term would consist of. Unshackled by the need to be re-elected, Mr. Obama would unleash an all-out radical assault. His plan is to bring Trotskyism to America, thereby imposing a socialist revolution from above. America’s military will be gutted. Its private economy subordinated to a centralized, bureaucratic state. The nation transformed into a Third World basket case. And all of this will come with the Kremlin’s blessing.

At a security summit in South Korea, Mr. Obama was overheard speaking with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev. Both men did not realize the microphones were picking up their words. They were discussing a missile-defense system for Europe. Mr. Obama told Mr. Medvedev that he needs more time to resolve the issue.

“This is my last election,” Mr. Obama said. “After my election I have more flexibility.”

Mr. Medvedev, who will soon be turning over the presidency to Russian strongman Vladimir Putin, replied: “I understand. I will transmit this information to Vladimir and I stand with you.”

This is telling. Mr. Obama is openly appeasing Moscow. He has sought to hit the “reset” button with Russia, striving for closer ties. In order to gain favor with Mr. Putin, the administration has betrayed U.S. national interests and key allies. Mr. Obama withdrew missile defense sites from Poland and the Czech Republic, abandoning Eastern Europe to Russia’s sphere of influence. He signed the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START) with the Kremlin, significantly slashing our nuclear arsenal. Mr. Obama has given Mr. Putin what he wants: a weakened and hollowed-out U.S. military.

Still, Russia’s modern-day czar craves more. For years, Mr. Putin has demanded that America share its vital missile defense components with Moscow. Hence, if Mr. Obama wants to erect a comprehensive missile shield for Europe, then the Kremlin argues it must have access to the sensitive technology. Otherwise, Mr. Putin argues that a missile defense system is a “threat” aimed at Russia. It is diplomatic blackmail. Mr. Obama, however, is getting ready to cave. His comments clearly show that, should he be re-elected, Washington will acquiesce to Moscow’s demands. Mr. Obama’s “flexibility” amounts to a profound betrayal of American national security. He will be handing over some of our most prized technology to an avowed foreign enemy.

Mr. Obama’s Russia policy is naïve and dangerous. Mr. Putin is presiding over a gangster state. He has rigged elections. Critics are imprisoned. Journalists are routinely murdered. Corruption is rampant. The country’s vast oil wealth has been plundered by oligarchs loyal to the Kremlin. Mr. Putin has waged a genocidal war in Chechnya. His armies invaded and annexed chunks of Georgia. He openly calls for the restoration of a Great Russian Empire. He is nostalgic about the dissolution of the Soviet Union, saying it was the “greatest mistake of the 20th century.” He menaces neighboring Ukraine, falsely claiming it is not a “real nation.” He is more than a former KGB thug with delusions of grandeur; rather, he is a national socialist who has never gotten over Moscow’s defeat in the Cold War. He seeks to bring America to its knees.

This is why his regime has sold important nuclear technology to Iran, supported Saddam Hussein’s Iraq, armed rogue states such as Syria and Venezuela, and forged an anti-American global axis with communist China. No responsible U.S. president should have anything to do with this man — never mind cutting deals on something as crucial as missile defense. Washington’s appeasement is only inviting Russian expansionism. It’s no wonder that Pravda, the former organ of the Soviet Communist Party, endorsed Mr. Obama’s re-election.

Yet, a second term will have implications far beyond Russia. Iran may acquire the nuclear bomb, triggering a major war with Israel. The Jewish state will find itself isolated on the world stage, facing possible annihilation. Islamists will be emboldened, consolidating their hold over Egypt, Yemen, Tunisia and Libya. Iraq will fall under a radical Shiite regime backed by Tehran. Afghanistan will likely be re-conquered by the Taliban. China will grow stronger. By 2016, Beijing is predicted to be the world’s largest economy. It will eclipse the United States. America’s decline will be swift and stunning. And like ancient Rome, the power vacuum left in its wake will be filled by new barbarians — Chinese militarism, Russian gangsterism and Islamic radicalism.

At home, his progressive leftist agenda will be redoubled. Mr. Obama will seek to grant amnesty to nearly 20 million illegal immigrants, thereby creating an enduring Democratic majority. He will try again to pass cap-and-trade legislation, hoping to tether industry and manufacturing to government control. If Congress fails to act, then he will empower the Environmental Protection Agency to impose cap-and-trade by administrative fiat. He will soak the rich — including corporations and businesses — through massive tax hikes. Investment capital will flee; economic growth will sputter; and unemployment will soar. His record spending binge will continue, pushing America to national bankruptcy. The dollar will collapse. The international community will insist on fiscal austerity, shredding our social safety net. Riots and civil chaos — like in Greece — may take place.

Leon Trotsky, one of the founders of the 1917 Bolshevik Revolution, championed the “theory of permanent revolution” — namely, a ruling class devoted to the ceaseless advance of socialism. Mr. Obama is the Trotsky of our age. A second term will give him the means to complete what he started: the destruction of traditional America. This is why he must be defeated in November.
