100% GREEN ENERGY COULD DESTROY THE PLANET

Beware: 100% green energy could destroy the planet

By Stephen Moore  June 2, 2022

The untold story about “green energy” is that it can’t possibly be scaled up to provide anywhere near the energy to replace fossil fuels. (Unless we are headed back to the stone ages, which is what some of the “de-growth” advocates favor).

Right now, the United States gets 70% of its energy from fossil fuels. To go to zero over the next 20 years would be economically catastrophic and cost tens of millions of jobs. With gas prices at nearly double their price back from when Trump left office and inflation up from 1.5% to 8% in just 15 months, we are already experiencing the economic damage from the green energy crusaders.

But we also have to ask whether green energy is even good for the environment. Some environmentalists are pointing to a little-noticed study by the World Bank showing that moving toward 100% solar, wind, and electric battery energy would be “just as destructive to the planet as fossil fuels.” This was precisely the conclusion of a story in Foreign Policy magazine, hardly a right-wing publication.

According to the Foreign Policy analysis, moving to a “carbon-free” energy future “requires massive amounts of energy, not to mention the extraction of minerals and metals at great environmental and social costs.”

Here are some of the numbers. Going all-in on batteries, solar, and wind would require

  • Thirty-four million metric tons of copper,
  • Forty million tons of lead,
  • Fifty million tons of zinc,
  • One hundred and sixty-two million tons of aluminum,
  • Four-point-eight billion tons of iron.
  • Those tens of millions of windmills, solar panels, and electric batteries for cars and trucks aren’t exactly biodegradable. So, we will have the most prominent energy graveyard with toxic pollutants that will be 100 times larger than any nuclear waste storage. And yet, the Left is worried about plastic straws!

HIGH GAS PRICES- GOVERNMENT CARBON TAX SCAM

Thursday, June 2nd, 2022

High Gas Prices are Caused by Governments, Not Companies
by Daniel Greenfield Jun 2, 2022
When Governor Newsom and New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern met to announce a deal between the tiny country and the broken state, it was another example of California illegally enacting its own foreign policy. And a reminder of why California gas prices are so high.

The memorandum had California promising to be “carbon neutral” by 2045 and to promote the “environmental integrity of carbon pricing instruments”. California’s crooked carbon pricing schemes have become notorious for both their worthlessness and their corruption.

And California drivers are paying the price.

report from Stillwater Associates last year found that California consumers were paying an extra $1.19 a gallon. This year the added costs include a 51 cent state excise tax, an 18 cent sales tax, 20 cents for Fuels Under the Cap, part of the state’s corrupt environmental cap and trade program and 17 cents for the Low Carbon Fuel Standard.

Californians are paying a $1.41 federal and state tax markup on $3 bucks of crude.

Or almost half.

Biden and other Democrats have blamed corporate profits, but the gas stations and suppliers are making a mere 33 cents a gallon or less than a third of the state’s added $1.08 in various taxes. Even the refiners are only making 72 cents. The biggest piece of the pie is coming from the taxes, many of them hidden, imposed by Democrats in the name of saving the planet.

THANK ENVIRONMENTALISTS FOR UKRAINE INVASION

Nolte: You Can Thank Environmentalists for the Invasion of Ukraine

By John Nolte    February 24, 2022

It is the West’s wacko environmentalists who handed Russian President Vladimir Putin the leverage and money to invade Crimea in 2014 and Ukraine this week.

Without these wackos, Putin would be just another gangster in charge of a crumbling country, and maybe one on the verge of a revolution to depose him.

But the facts are the facts are the facts, and the facts are these… Thanks to the West’s environmentalists, those smug greenies who are more concerned with carbon output than world peace, this gangster controls much of the energy going to the European Union (E.U.). Per Statista, here are the countries most dependent on Russia for natural gas. The percentages tell us just how dependent:

  • North Macedonia (100 percent)
  • Finland (94 percent)
  • Bulgaria (74 percent)
  • Slovakia (70 percent)
  • Germany (49 percent)
  • Italy (46 percent)
  • Poland (40 percent)
  • France (24 percent).

It gets worse.

As of 2019, a full 27 percent of the European Union’s crude oil, 41 percent of its natural gas, and 47 percent of its solid fuel (mostly coal) come from Russia.

Why?

Well, it’s very simple. Russia is not stupid. Putin is not stupid. He drills and digs and fracks while Western countries pat themselves on the back for closing coal mines, refusing oil leases, and shuttering nuclear power plants. And in doing so, even at the expense of giving the gangster Putin leverage over them, these Western countries pat themselves on the back for decreasing their carbon footprints and going green…

Meanwhile, Putin is given control over the very thing that allows Western Civilization to remain Western Civilization: energy.

BIDEN’S REGULATORY BENDER IS CRUSHING THE U.S. ECONOMY

Friday, February 4th, 2022

BIDEN’S REGULATORY BENDER IS CRUSHING THE U.S. ECONOMY
By the Washington Examiner Editorial Board  January 24, 2022

By so many measures, Joe Biden’s presidential administration falls at the bottom of the scale. But there is one metric by which Biden is tops — in fact, the very tops in all of history. That is the regulatory costs his administration has imposed on the nation in a single year.

The American Action Forum, a conservative think tank that tracks government regulation, has tallied up what agencies estimate their regulations cost. The Biden administration has now imposed $201 billion in regulations — more than three times the cost that President Barack Obama’s very left-wing administration imposed on families and businesses in its first year.

What’s more, Biden’s new regulations are forcing more than 100 million hours of annual paperwork on the nation, far more than either the Obama or Trump administration.

For a presidency that has basically failed in every important area — on COVID, on the border, on Afghanistan, on the economy — Biden certainly knows how to succeed when it comes to imposing new costs.

The single most expensive rule change, by far, is a requirement that automakers meet an unrealistic 55-mile-per-gallon fleetwide average by 2026. But this is only one of many expensive new rules that stand to sap the bank accounts and energy of entrepreneurs and families.

This is one of the many areas in which we are already missing the Trump administration. For all his faults, Trump made a point of repealing at least one regulation for every new one put into effect. This was a revolutionary idea that actually reduced costs. It was one factor that helped usher in prosperity and unprecedented low levels of unemployment prior to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Biden is now crushing the life out of the economy with his regulatory frenzy. And unfortunately, he’s only just gotten started. The new infrastructure bill that he signed will impose many additional regulations and billions in added expenses. And matters will only get worse going forward. With the failure of his legislative agenda and Democrats’ impending loss of Congress in this year’s elections, Biden is likely to follow Obama’s example and govern with his pen and his phone, using regulation where he is unable to pass laws.

From the very beginning of his presidency, when he prevented needed pipelines from being constructed and blocked oil and gas exploration on federal land, Biden has been working to make big government bigger and individuals poorer. His administration is filled with far-left ideologues who know nothing about the daily realities of making ends meet or running a business.

The new president who takes power in 2025 will need to think carefully in advance about how to undo all the damage Biden is doing right now.

DEMOCRAT’S TIME FOR MAGICAL ENERGY THINKING IS OVER

Thursday, November 18th, 2021

Democrats’ time for magical energy thinking is over

By Michael McKenna   October 23, 2021

Unfortunately for the United States, one of its political parties has become the home of magical thinking about energy. Here’s a hint: It’s not the Republicans.

Despite the Biden administration’s hopes to create a world in which solar panels and wind turbines power an all-electric automobile fleet, just last week, President Biden announced that the administration is considering a 20-year delay of new mining operations in northern Minnesota. These new mines eventually will produce copper, nickel and cobalt, all of which are essential minerals in manufacturing electric vehicles, batteries and transmission lines.

Apparently, no one told Mr. Biden that the administration’s entire energy policy is built on copper, nickel and cobalt.  By delaying the mines, Team Biden is making communist China richer and Americans poorer. They are trading our energy independence for reliance on China for minerals, a dependence that may be far greater than any we ever had on the Middle East for oil.

At its worst, we imported less than a quarter of our oil from the Middle East.  Right now, China owns or controls about 80% of the rare earth minerals on the planet.

Republican Rep. Pete Stauber from Minnesota was clear. “Rather than promoting the dignity of work, they’re comfortable seeing Minnesota’s union members and skilled workers sidelined. Instead of empowering Minnesotans to develop the minerals necessary for almost every sector of our economy under the strongest labor and environmental standards in the world, they are willing to rely on hostile nations that utilize child slave labor and terrible environmental practices.” He’s right.

Trump, in CPAC Speech, Promises to Defeat Critical Race Theory and Marxism

July 11, 2021 Updated: July 11, 2021

Former President Donald Trump on Sunday addressed the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Texas and promised to “defeat” critical race theory.

“With the help of everyone here today, we will defeat the radical left, the socialists, Marxists, and the critical race theorists,” Trump told the audience. “We will secure our borders, we will stop left-wing cancel culture, we will restore free speech and free elections and we will make America great again.”

Critical race theory (CRT) is perhaps at the forefront of America’s culture wars as parents across the country have wrangled with teachers, school boards, and teachers unions over whether it should be taught to public school students. CRT is strongly associated with the “antiracist” movement, “cancel culture,” as well as “diversity, equity, and inclusion” workforce training.

THE FANTASY OF GREEN ENERGY

Saturday, May 15th, 2021

by Thomas Lifson    May 13, 2021

International Energy Agency report shows that green energy transition is a fantasy because of dependence on key rare minerals

A prestigious intergovernmental organization created by the world’s advanced economies is pointing out the bottleneck in the plans to substitute so-called green energy for hydrocarbon-based energy: the availability of key minerals necessary for battery storage, wind farms, solar panels, and other gizmos necessary for the switchover. Simply put: the world can’t provide the quantity of those minerals that would be necessary, and the environmental and social impact of trying to mine them in sufficient quantities would be devastating.

The cure, in other words, is worse than the disease.

You can download the 287-page report here.

The International Energy Agency is an intergovernmental organization founded by the OECD [Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development] in the wake of the 1973 oil crisis to provide information and policy suggestions to help the advanced economies cope with energy needs. It currently is focused on the green energy transition so desired by many of the world’s most powerful special interests.

The report on minerals is part of a larger project on the green energy transition. Mark P. Mills cites some of its most important findings in the Wall Street Journal.

The IEA assembled a large body of data about a central, and until now largely ignored, aspect of the energy transition: It requires mining industries and infrastructure that don’t exist. Wind, solar and battery technologies are built from an array of “energy transition minerals,” or ETMs, that must be mined and processed. The IEA finds that with a global energy transition like the one President Biden envisions, demand for key minerals such as lithium, graphite, nickel and rare-earth metals would explode, rising by 4,200%, 2,500%, 1,900% and 700%, respectively, by 2040.
