South Carolina Representative Joe Wilson was our guest speaker for the evening. You'll remember him from Obama's State of the Union Speech in January. The ladies were lined up to have their photos taken with him! Pictured with Representative Wilson is Ladonna Ryggs of Spartanburg, SC, former SC Federation State President

Our own Martha Jenkins who is a third vice president with the national federation, is seen standing with Nikki Haley as Nikki waits to speak at a rally we were holding for her. (Sarah Palin has endorsed Nikki Haley for governor of S.C.)

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) – Republican candidate for governor Nikki Haley was in the Lowcountry Thursday afternoon.

State Rep. Haley spoke to members of the National Federation of Republican Women.

Earlier this week, Haley’s Democratic opponent, Vincent Sheheen, asked Haley to take a stance on the effort to secure funding for a study on deepening Charleston’s harbor. After the speech, Haley gave her position on it.

“The port is absolute priority,” Haley said. “We’ll do what it takes to get the money they need and dredge. We’re going to make sure we do here in the state.”

Throughout the weekend, the group is hosting several state leaders to kick off the fall election season.

Haley faces Sheheen and Green Party candidate Morgan Reeves in the November election.

Restoring Honor Rally Changes Hearts and Minds

by The Central Texas 9-12 Project

Saturday, August 28, 2010, my husband, two daughters, and I attended the Restoring Honor rally in Washington D.C. It was a wonderful experience for us all. The crowd was huge (500,000 + people), very peaceful, and individuals were kind and patient. You might think that the important part of the weekend was the three and a half hours (or more) that we spent together during the rally. When I was sitting under the bright, hot sun with my friends from Texas, I thought so too. But I was wrong…

    DC Rally

During the first leg of our trip from D.C. to Chicago, our two daughters, ages 22 and 16, sat next to an African-American gentleman wearing an Obama inauguration t-shirt. After take-off, he mentioned to them that he had travelled to D.C. to attend Al Sharpton’s Reclaim the Dream rally. Our older daughter told him that they were in D.C. for the Glenn Beck Restoring Honor rally, and the conversation took off from there. (more…)

President Obama’s top education official urged government employees to attend a rally that the Rev. Al Sharpton organized to counter a larger conservative event on the Mall.

“ED staff are invited to join Secretary Arne Duncan, the Reverend Al Sharpton, and other leaders on Saturday, Aug. 28, for the ‘Reclaim the Dream’ rally and march,” began an internal e-mail sent to more than 4,000 employees of the Department of Education on Wednesday.

Sharpton created the event after Glenn Beck announced a massive Tea Party “Restoring Honor” rally at the Lincoln Memorial, where King spoke in 1963. (more…)

    AN ARMY OF POLITE AMERICANS!

    Glenn Beck’s Happy Warriors

You probably couldn’t have found a more polite crowd at the opera.

      By JAMES FREEMAN

      Washington, D.C.

Pundits will debate whether the crowd at Glenn Beck’s Saturday rally in Washington was the largest in recent political history, but it was certainly among the most impressive.

Mr. Beck is a television host and radio broadcaster with a checkered past and a penchant for incendiary remarks. But if he’s judged by the quality of people of all colors that he attracted to the Lincoln Memorial, his stock can’t help but rise.

One would not be able to find a more polite crowd at a political convention, certainly not at a professional sporting event, probably not even at an opera. In fact, judging by the behavior of the attendees following the event, you’d have a tough time finding churches in which people display more patience as others make their way to the exits. (more…)
