MARK STEYN – BUSH RE-ENTERS THE ROOM

Bush Re-Enters the Room

by Mark Steyn
Twenty Years On
September 13, 2021

The official observances for the twentieth anniversary managed to be even more wretched and grotesque than I’d expected – the most obvious affront being Bush’s equivalence between the perpetrators of 9/11 and the “perpetrators” of 1/6: They were both “children of the same foul spirit”, he declared, diminishing the three thousand victims of the former by comparing them to a congressman who had to hide in the stationery cupboard because some goofball was taking selfies with his feet up on the desk.

Twenty years ago, the forty-third president’s entire executive branch totally failed the nation. Sample quote from page 184 of America Alone:

FAA Command Center: “Do we want to think about scrambling aircraft?”

FAA Headquarters: “God, I don’t know.”

FAA Command Center: “That’s a decision somebody’s going to have to make, probably in the next ten minutes.”

FAA Headquarters: “You know, everybody just left the room.”

“Everybody just left the room”: Your federal government in action. Under Bush, no one paid a price for it: That’s your “foul spirit” right there, Pericles. It will be the same when the Chinese yank the rug out from under the dollar: Everybody just left the room – at the White House, at the Fed, at the Treasury …but not at the IRS, where they’re still hard at it freezing the savings accounts of January insurrectionists’ nine-year-old grandkids.

CONSEQUENCES OF BIDEN’S WITHDRAWAL FROM AFGHANISTAN

Colonel Richard Kemp, Former UK Commander in Afghanistan: Biden ‘Should Be Court-Martialed For Betraying’ U.S. and U.S. Armed Forces

By Michael W. Chapman | August 23, 2021

In a very candid interview with conservative Mark Levin on Sunday, the former commander of British troops in Afghanistan, Colonel Richard Kemp, said that President Joe Biden had single-handedly destroyed NATO’s credibility and had betrayed the United States and the U.S. military, for which he “should be court-martialed.”

“In my opinion, and I don’t say this lightly, and I’ve never said it about anybody else, any other leader in this position, people have been talking about impeaching President Biden,” said Col. Kemp on FNC’s Life, Liberty & Levin.

“I don’t believe President Biden should be impeached,” he added.  “He’s the commander-in-chief of the U.S. Armed Forces, who’s just essentially surrendered to the Taliban. He shouldn’t be impeached; he should be court-martialed for betraying the United States of America and the United States Armed Forces.”

Colonel Kemp was an infantry battalion commanding officer and he headed Operation Fingal in Afghanistan in 2003. Kemp also served in the Iraq war, the Bosnian war, the Gulf war, and in battles against terrorists in Northern Ireland (Operation Banner).  He was awarded the Commander of the Order of the British Empire and the Queen’s Commendation for Bravery.

During the Aug. 22 interview, Levin asked, “Colonel Kemp, my question to you is, given what has taken place now in Afghanistan, and it’s ongoing, and assuming that Joe Biden stays on the same course, what are consequences for the United States, Britain, NATO, the free world, and that area of the world now?”

Kemp replied, “I think the consequences of what has just happened and what’s still happening are absolutely devastating for the whole of the Western world. I mentioned earlier that the catastrophic effect on NATO. NATO is a very important military alliance.”

BIDEN HAD OPTIONS IN AFGHANISTAN

President Biden had options

August 23, 2021   By Clifford D. May      Clifford D. May is founder and president of the Foundation for Defense of Democracies (FDD) and a columnist for the Washington Times. Follow him on Twitter @CliffordDMay. FDD is a nonpartisan think tank focused on foreign policy and national security issues.

You don’t need to be a brilliant geopolitical strategist to understand that the United States should be the best friend – and the worst enemy – any nation could have. Following the events of recent days, the U.S. will be perceived differently: “harmless as an enemy but treacherous as a friend.”

Many politicians and diplomats share blame for this outcome, as do those deep thinkers who fancy themselves proponents of “responsible statecraft,” based on the dangerous fiction that “forever wars” end once Americans stop fighting them.

But since the buck stops in the Oval Office, history will most vividly remember the terrible decisions President Biden made in the months leading up to the 20th anniversary of the most catastrophic terrorist attacks ever on American soil.

The commander in chief had options. None were good. Least bad would have been to continue to frustrate the ambitions of the Taliban and al Qaeda, which also would have ensured that Afghans in Kabul and other cities would retain a measure of freedom and security. That would have required leaving a small residual force in Afghanistan, a force that would train, advise, and assist – not engage in direct ground combat.

The Scale of Humiliation

August 15, 2021  by Mark Steyn
The Fall of Kabul

To reprise a line from a decade-old column of mine:

Afghanistan is about Afghanistan – if you’re Afghan or Pakistani. But, if you’re Russian or Chinese or Iranian or European, Afghanistan is about America.

That’s the point to remember: if you’re an Afghan schoolgirl, today is the fall of Kabul; elsewhere, in the chancelleries of allies and enemies alike, it’s the fall of America. Even by their usual wretched standards, the world’s most somnolent media are struggling to stay up to speed on the story. Here’s the scoop from USA Today:

Taliban’s Afghanistan Advance Tests Biden’s ‘America Is Back’ Foreign Policy Promise

You don’t say! Did he misread the prompter, or mishear the guy in his ear? “America is on its back”, surely?

But don’t worry, the world’s most lavishly over-funded “intelligence community” is on the case:

Kabul Could Fall To The Taliban Within 90 Days, U.S. Intelligence Warns

Thank you, geniuses. That was Thursday. So it turned out to be well within ninety hours – which is close enough for US intelligence work.

Was this the same “seventeen intelligence agencies” who all agreed Russia had meddled in the 2016 election – and with whose collective intelligence only a fool would disagree?

WHY OSAMA BIN LADEN BANNED THE KILLING OF BIDEN

Sunday, August 22nd, 2021

Osama Bin Laden definitely was able to take the measure of the man (Biden) !  Nancy

Osama bin Laden BANNED al Qaeda from trying to assassinate Joe Biden because he believed he would be an incompetent president and ‘lead the US into a crisis’

By Chris Pleasance  August 20, 2021

Osama bin Laden banned al Qaeda from assassinating Joe Biden because the Democrat would become an incompetent president and ‘lead the US into a crisis’ if jihadists were successful in killing Barack Obama.

Bin Laden made the remark in a 2010 letter that was found in a trove of documents at the Pakistan compound where he was killed by US special forces in 2011.

The document was first made public in 2012 but has been brought back to light and given new significance amid the chaotic US withdrawal from Afghanistan that has gifted the country back to the Taliban.

THE AFGHANISTAN DEBACLE IS EXACTLY WHAT THE LEFT WANTED

The Afghanistan Debacle is Exactly What the Left Wanted

EXCERPT FROM THIS ARTICLE:  The left, including its swamp bureaucrats who administer our wars, has no qualms with what happened in Kabul.  They support Biden’s grotesque withdraw not in spite of its consequences for America, but because of them.  They want to see America humbled and weakened on the world stage.  They want our enemies to outmaneuver us.  They want us to lose our global leverage….. The left, including its swamp bureaucrats who administer our wars, has no qualms with what happened in Kabul.  They support Biden’s grotesque withdraw not in spite of its consequences for America, but because of them.  They want to see America humbled and weakened on the world stage.  They want our enemies to outmaneuver us.  They want us to lose our global leverage………. What happened in Kabul was deliberate. In fact, I would argue it went far better than most leftists dreamed it would.  Even they underestimated Joe’s uncanny ability to make the absolute worst decision in practically every situation.  Our kids’ grandkids will be fighting the wars that result from this and will likely do it alone.  Far from being a tragedy, our abandonment of Afghanistan was one of the left’s biggest foreign policy successes.

There’s not much to say that hasn’t already been said regarding Biden’s unconditional surrender to the Taliban, and it’s only the first week.  Bookshelves will be filled with analyses of these events, and we won’t understand their full ramifications for decades.  My two cents, for what they’re worth, are that the left doesn’t consider the fall of Kabul and the betrayal of our allies to be a tragedy.  Rather, this is deliberate foreign policy strategy, and it’s right on track.

The pattern is clear for those who wish to see.  Simply put, the left thinks America is not only evil but irredeemably so.  Hence, any policy, be it foreign or domestic, that weakens our nation-state should be pursued, the goal being that the nation-state will eventually corrode to the point of collapse.  They don’t care that the hollowed-out dystopia will be long past its desirability for subjugation, so long as they get to be in charge.  As Lord Varys said of Littlefinger, “He would see this country burn if he could be king of the ashes”.
