“Connected Legislators”

A study from Raleigh public relations company CapStrat finds that
Republicans lead
their Democratic counterparts in the legislature when it comes to social
media connectedness.
The study found that 82 percent of legislative Republicans were connected
to social
media Internet sites like Facebook and Twitter, compared to 45 percent of
Democrats.
Legislative Democrats who are connected accounted for a higher levels of
activity
on the sites. “Republicans are really starting to show how a party can
effectively
get out a message using social media,” said Ken Eudy CEO at Capstrat.
“It’s a cost-effective
way to engage constituents.”
The study showed Sen. Andrew Brock, D-Davie, with the most Facebook
friends in the
Senate, at 5,941. Senate Majority Leader Phil Berger, R-Rockingham, had
the most
Twitter followers, at 988. Democratic senators with the most followers
were Sen.
Don Davis, D-Greene, with 4,815 Facebook friends, and Sen. Malcolm Graham,
D-Mecklenburg,
with 191 Twitter followers.
Rep. Rick Glazier, D-Cumberland, led House members with 2,829 Facebook
friends,
while House Majority Leader Paul “Skip” Stam, R-Wake, recorded the most
Twitter
followers with 653.Stam had 2,817 Facebook friends, while Rep. Patricia
Cotham,
D-Mecklenburg, had 419 Twitter followers.

surpassed
