This first article, A Note to Readers, was written by the WSJ Editorial Board responding to a letter to their publisher from 280 WSJ colleagues who criticized the opinion pages of the WSJ for their refusal to adhere to the demands of the cancel culture in the choosing of the types of articles the opinion pages publish. Thank goodness the Editorial Board is standing up to totalitarian group think that has been sweeping our country !
If you click on the link below, you will be able to view the video narrated by Daniel Henninger about the history of Marxist /Totalitarianism. There is even a short clip of our beloved President Reagan speaking about Totalitarianism.
In the Second WSJ article below, you will find a very fine example of the type of articles that the Editorial Board chooses to publish in its Opinion pages. In this article the author ( Mr. Michta is dean of the College of International and Security Studies at the George C. Marshall European Center for Security Studies in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany. ) warns that America must push back against the unrelenting assault of the neo-Marxist narrative that is being pushed by the cancel culture today. THE WALL STREET JOURNAL
A Note to Readers
These pages won’t wilt under cancel-culture pressure
July 23, 2020 The Editorial Board
We’ve been gratified this week by the outpouring of support from readers after some 280 of our Wall Street Journal colleagues signed (and someone leaked) a letter to our publisher criticizing the opinion pages. But the support has often been mixed with concern that perhaps the letter will cause us to change our principles and content. On that point, reassurance is in order.
In the spirit of collegiality, we won’t respond in kind to the letter signers. Their anxieties aren’t our responsibility in any case. The signers report to the News editors or other parts of the business, and the News and Opinion departments operate with separate staffs and editors. Both report to Publisher Almar Latour. This separation allows us to pursue stories and inform readers with independent judgment.
It was probably inevitable that the wave of progressive cancel culture would arrive at the Journal, as it has at nearly every other cultural, business, academic and journalistic institution. But we are not the New York Times. Most Journal reporters attempt to cover the news fairly and down the middle, and our opinion pages offer an alternative to the uniform progressive views that dominate nearly all of today’s media.

Excerpt From This Article:
Having drilled several generations of students in Marxist cant—whenever you hear words like “systemic,” “struggle,” “structural,” “change,” “fundamental transformation,” et al., you know you’re dealing with Marxists—the tinder was laid, and all the new left needed was a match.
Decades in preparation, the future United States of America that the international left intends to fashion is near at hand.
Since the arrival of the Frankfurt School of Marxist philosophers, cranks, crackpots, and creeps on our shores in the 1930s, the Enlightenment foundations of our nation have been under constant attack.
Wielding their pseudo-intellectual doctrine of Critical Theory as a battering ram, men like Herbert Marcuse, Theodor Adorno, Erich Fromm, and Wilhelm Reich saw it as their duty to undermine every legal and social American institution, from the family, to traditional sexuality, to academe, pop culture, government, and even the military. Nothing was safe from their iniquitous inquisition.
At first, they seemed vaguely ridiculous, a bunch of nutty professors with Dr. Strangelove accents. But don’t be fooled.
Reich, a Freudian psychiatrist who often treated his patients in the nude, invented the “sexual revolution,” later popularized by Hugh Hefner in the pages of Playboy. His quack theories about sexuality were called “a fraud of the first magnitude” by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, and he died, intermittently psychotic, in federal prison in 1957.
Adorno, who had been a “modern music” composer and critic back in Germany, moved to Los Angeles and hated everything about it, including the weather.
Worst of all was Marcuse—whose pomposity was gleefully skewered by Joel and Ethan Coen in their 2016 comedy, “Hail, Caesar!”—a social destabilizer who first penetrated the Office of Strategic Services (the OSS, forerunner of the CIA), then corrupted generations of American college students at Columbia University (where the expat Frankfurters first found refuge), Harvard, Brandeis, and finally the University of California at San Diego.

This is a an excellent history of Cultural Marxism and explains how Cultural Marxism has been so successful in undermining our traditional culture in the United States. In fact, we can see it happening right now in front of our very eyes. Please share with your email lists. Nancy

He serves as director of the Center for Cultural Conservatism of the Free Congress Foundation in Washington, D.C., and as a vestryman at St. James Anglican Church in his hometown of Cleveland, Ohio.

Sometime during the last half-century, someone stole our culture. Just 50 years ago, in the 1950s, America was a great place. It was safe. It was decent. Children got good educations in the public schools. Even blue-collar fathers brought home middle-class incomes, so moms could stay home with the kids. Television shows reflected sound, traditional values.
Where did it all go? How did that America become the sleazy, decadent place we live in today – so different that those who grew up prior to the ’60s feel like it’s a foreign country? Did it just “happen”?
It didn’t just “happen.” In fact, a deliberate agenda was followed to steal our culture and leave a new and very different one in its place. The story of how and why is one of the most important parts of our nation’s history – and it is a story almost no one knows. The people behind it wanted it that way.
What happened, in short, is that America’s traditional culture, which had grown up over generations from our Western, Judeo-Christian roots, was swept aside by an ideology. We know that ideology best as “political correctness” or “multi-culturalism.”It really is cultural Marxism, Marxism translated from economic into cultural terms in an effort that goes back not to the 1960s, but to World War I. Incredible as it may seem, just as the old economic Marxism of the Soviet Union has faded away, a new cultural Marxism has become the ruling ideology of America’s elites. The No. 1 goal of that cultural Marxism, since its creation, has been the destruction of Western culture and the Christian religion.
To understand anything, we have to know its history. To understand who stole our culture, we need to take a look at the history of “political correctness.”

This interview with a professor of Russian literature points out some of the similarities between what is happening in America today and conditions in Czarist Russia right before the Russian Revolution. Nancy
THE WALL STREET JOURNAL
VIOLENT PROTEST AND THE INTELLIGENTSIA
An Interview with Gary Saul Morson, A professor of Russian Literature at Northwestern University, by Barton Swaim Mr. Swaim is an editorial page writer for the Journal.
June 7, 2020
EXCERPT FROM THIS ARTICLE: In late czarist Russia, some political parties and other groups—the Social Democrats, the anarchists, the Marxists—explicitly endorsed terrorism. “The liberal party—the Constitutional Democrats, they called themselves—did not condone terrorism,” Mr. Morson says. “But they refused to condemn it. And indeed they called for the release from prison of all terrorists, who were pledged to continue terrorism right away. . . . A famous line from one of the liberal leaders put it this way: ‘Condemn terrorism? That would be the moral death of the party.’ ”
The similarities between this week’s riots and the Los Angeles riots of 1992 are obvious. Both were occasioned by appalling video images, and both divided the nation along partisan and ideological lines. The differences between the two events, however, are more revealing. The violence in 1992 came after a court verdict; the beating and arrest of Rodney King had happened more than a year before. This year’s riots came within days of George Floyd’s killing by Minneapolis officers. The riots of 1992 were mostly confined to poor and working-class areas of Los Angeles. This week saw mayhem all over America, and in Los Angeles, New York and elsewhere the rioters targeted wealthy streets and neighborhoods.
But perhaps the most striking difference is the rationalization, and sometimes full-throated defense, of violence from left-wing elites: the glorification of havoc, the vilification of cops and their middle-class admirers, highfalutin defenses of vandalism. The sense of revolution and class warfare was everywhere this week: the cognoscenti and underclass arrayed against the petty bourgeois shop owners; the elite and those they claim to represent against everybody else.
Gary Saul Morson says he has no special insight regarding police actions and the death of George Floyd. But he does have a provocative thesis about America’s current political moment: “To me it’s astonishingly like late 19th-, early 20th-century Russia, when basically the entire educated class felt you simply had to be against the regime or some sort of revolutionary.”
Mr. Morson, 72, is a professor of Russian literature at Northwestern University and an accomplished interpreter of Fyodor Dostoevsky, Anton Chekhov and Leo Tolstoy. Obviously we haven’t arrived at anything like what Lenin called a “revolutionary situation,” Mr. Morson says, but we have arrived at a situation in which well-intentioned liberal people often can’t bring themselves to say that lawless violence is wrong.

THE CONSERVATIVE PUNDIT
Will the Defeat of Trump in 2020 Lead to a Civil War ?
Steve Baldwin is a 35-year veteran of the conservative movement. He is the author of From Crayons to Condoms, the former executive director of Young Americans for Freedom, the former executive director of the Council for National Policy and a former California state legislator.
March 27, 2019 by Steve Baldwin
You don’t have to like Donald Trump to support him in 2020. Nor is it necessary for you to agree with everything he says or tweets. You may even dislike his style, his language and his sometimes abrasive behavior. But it is imperative for all voters to understand the choice we will have in two years and what the ramifications are if Trump loses the election. If you are a conservative thinking about not voting for Trump due to these petty reasons, well, grow up. We are now at a tipping point in American history in which the defeat of Trump will most likely launch a series of unconstitutional actions and decisions by the left which could very well lead to the destruction of America as we know it.
There are lots of discussions and chit-chat about a coming civil war on both leftist and conservative blogs, websites, news sites, etc., but is that really a possible scenario in our future? Let’s face it, we are already in the midst of a form a civil war today, both politically and culturally. Indeed, America has not been this divided since the Civil War of 1861-1865. But could this “soft” civil war evolve into more of an actual violent civil war? Afterall, it is clear to conservatives that many of America’s major institutions are under assault by a fanatical leftist movement that seeks to wipe out our Western and largely Christian heritage and replace it with an atheist, socialist utopia where supposed “equality” will be forced upon everyone and government will be the provider of all goods and services.
We’ve seen this movie before many times – the USSR, China, Cuba, Venezuela, most of Africa, etc. Indeed, these countries were and are nightmare regimes that destroyed individual rights, religious freedom, the free enterprise system and free will. There’s no doubt that once socialism takes root, the accumulation of governmental power eventually leads to an Orwellian police state that controls all aspects of one’s life. Yes, there have been a few socialist countries the left points to that have not evolved into police states –the Scandinavian countries — but over the last decade those countries dropped their experiment with socialism and have since become, by some accounts, more free market-oriented than the USA. They were fortunate enough to dump socialism before it evolved into a police state.
The reality is that almost all socialist countries evolve into various forms of authoritarianism; just ask anyone who lived in Eastern Europe during the Cold War. But the socialist revolution here in America is already well under way. If one looks at many of our K-12 schools, our universities, the media and even many of our churches, they have been corrupted by the left and have become propaganda organs advocating socialist causes at the expense of their original missions. There is little doubt the push to socialism is escalating here in the USA.
It is a shame so many millenillials are unaware of the tyranny that socialism leads to. And that’s what the left is counting on. Very few millenillials read anything other than phone texts or social media posts and even fewer have ever read any of the great anti-socialist books such as Animal Farm and 1984 by George Orwell, Witness by Whittaker Chambers, Darkness at Noon and The God that Failed by Arthur Koestler and the Gulag Archipelagoby Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn. One would think such books would be routinely assigned in our schools since, after all, it was only 29 years ago the USSR was the most serious threat to our freedom our country had ever experienced. Moreover, communism/socialism still exists today in China, North Korea and a few other places.

Many American Jews Need to Atone for Their Sins against Donald Trump
Rabbi Aryeh Spero is president of Caucus for America and author of Push Back: Reclaiming our American Judeo-Christian Spirit
America has seen many presidents who have been good to Israel and the Jewish people. None has been better than Donald Trump. Beyond doubt, he has done unmatched and extraordinary things for Israel and has publicly spoken against anti-Semitism in the United Nations and repeatedly during his State of the Union addresses. The whole world has seen the priority Mr. Trump bestows on Israel and safety for Jews. Additionally, he and his father were tremendous friends and benefactors to Jews and Israel, much prior to his entering politics. Yet the establishment Jewish organizations and temples have too often falsely maligned him, and liberal American Jewry (about 70% of American Jewry) have been his most vocal critics. Actually, they are in the forefront against him, as often seen on television, in articles, and in speeches from non-orthodox rabbis on the pulpit. Even among regular liberal Jews, the railing against Mr. Trump is incessant, hysterical, mean, and full of hate. All of this constitutes gross, unprecedented ingratitude. Jewish Tradition frowns on ingratitude, indeed calls it a sin.
Many in the secular Jewish community do not consider their attitude ungrateful inasmuch as support for Israel is no longer important to them, and they seem undaunted when anti-Semitism comes from the political Left (their home), or from social justice warriors and certain “minorities.” What they consider good for Jews most often has nothing to do with Jewish need at all, but rather a universalist agenda at odds with Jewish survival. In their zeal to destroy and remove Mr. Trump from the presidency, they have gone beyond ingratitude to downright lying about him, scheming against him, and throwing normal fairness and decency out the window.
Yom Kippur, the annual Day of Atonement, falls this week. One of the most prominent prayers is “for the sins we have committed,” a list of grievous sins that may apply to the penitent, thereby requiring atonement. Thus, now may be the best and most appropriate time to review the sins many within the Jewish community continue to wage against President Trump. Perhaps they should begin some reflection and introspection regarding their three years of ferocious attacks and lies against a man who loves Israel and America and longs for Jewish individuals and children to be safe from terrorism. No doubt, there are as well other sins against innocent people that should be pondered, including sins even against Israel and Jewish peoplehood.
* * *
Adam Schiff: For the sin of bearing false witness, excessive lying, deceit, and tale-bearing against President Trump.
Chuck Schumer: For the sin of raging ambition, forked tongue, and “standing idly by while the blood of your brothers” is spilt in Brooklyn and while Israel remains threatened by an Obama Iran deal you refused to fight against.
Jerrold Nadler: For the sin of revenge, deceit, and falsehood against President Trump.
Eliot Engel: For the sin of allowing an enemy of your people, Ilhan Omar, to remain seated and powerful on your House Foreign Affairs Committee.
