THE IRANIAN CONNECTION TO BENGHAZI

THE WASHINGTON TIMES
THE IRANIAN CONNECTION TO BENGHAZI
Questions about Iran’s involvement in the Benghazi attack persist
By Kenneth R. Timmerman     Kenneth R. Timmerman is the author of”Dark Forces:  The Truth About What Happened in Benghazi” and president of the Foundation for Democracy in Iran
March 20, 2016
EXCERPT FROM THIS ARTICLE:

“Everyone knew the Iranians were in Benghazi,” former CIA security officer Kris “Tanto” Paranto said in an interview. “Especially once the Red Cross [Red Crescent] team from Iran was ‘kidnapped’ by Ansar al-Shariah, we knew about them and were tracking them.”
The “kidnapping” was reported in the Libyan press as the result of a feud between Sunni militiamen and an Iranian Shiite medical team, but in fact was a carefully staged deception operation to lead the CIA off the track.
“The kidnapping of the Red Crescent team in Benghazi was a false flag operation,” a U.S. Special Forces flag officer who was then providing intelligence support for overseas operations said.
“They were actually Quds Force operatives. The kidnapping was arranged to make it look like they were being taken hostages, when actually they were being taken off the street so they could covertly direct the attack on the U.S. compound. “We know from liaison relationships that Iranians did the training. They organized the militia and taught them how to zero in the mortars. They set up sophisticated surveillance of the consulate — and they did it all while they were ‘hostages,’” he said.

In the aftermath of the 2012 Benghazi attack that killed four Americans, Defense Intelligence Agency Director Lt. Gen. Michael T. Flynn tasked the intelligence community for information on Iran’s involvement in the attack.
Until now, government officials have refused to acknowledge any Iranian involvement in Benghazi. But the Flynn memo indicates that at least some in the U.S. intelligence community suspected Tehran from the very beginning.
A top secret Sept. 21 memo responding to the director’s inquiry and disclosed as the result of a Freedom of Information Act request from the conservative watchdog group Judicial Watch includes fragmentary information on al Qaeda affiliates. But its conclusions regarding Iran’s notorious Quds Force, a deadly hybrid of intelligence and special operations, have been totally redacted.

EXPLOSIVE NEW EMAIL – MILITARY WANTED TO SEND HELP TO BENGHAZI

Wednesday, December 30th, 2015

Judicial Watch: New Benghazi Email Shows DOD Offered State Department “Forces that Could Move to Benghazi” Immediately – Specifics Blacked Out in New Document

DECEMBER 08, 2015

EXCERPT FROM THIS ARTICLE“   The Obama administration and Clinton officials hid this compelling Benghazi email for years,” said Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton. “The email makes readily apparent that the military was prepared to launch immediate assistance that could have made a difference, at least at the CIA Annex.  The fact that the Obama Administration withheld this email for so long only worsens the scandal of Benghazi.”

“They are spinning up as we speak.” U.S. Department of Defense Chief of Staff Jeremy Bash Tuesday, September 11, 2012, 7:19 PM

(Washington, DC) – Judicial Watch today released a new Benghazi email from then-Department of Defense Chief of Staff Jeremy Bash to State Department leadership immediately offering “forces that could move to Benghazi” during the terrorist attack on the U.S. Special Mission Compound in Benghazi, Libya on September 11, 2012. In an email sent to top Department of State officials, at 7:19 p.m. ET, only hours after the attack had begun, Bash says, “we have identified the forces that could move to Benghazi. They are spinning up as we speak.” The Obama administration redacted the details of the military forces available, oddly citing a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) exemption that allows the withholding of “deliberative process” information.

JUDICIAL WATCH RELEASES NEW INFORMATION ON BENGHAZI

Monday, October 26th, 2015

State Department documents detail delays and lack of support in hours after attack

(Washington, DC) – Judicial Watch today released new State Department documents that raise more questions about the September 11, 2012, terrorist attack on the U.S. Special Mission at Benghazi, Libya.  The documents show the White House contacted YouTube over an Internet video as one of its first moves after the initial attack.

The documents, from the agency’s Bureau of Diplomatic Security, were provided to Judicial Watch in response to a court order in a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia on October 16, 2014, (Judicial Watch v. U.S. Department of State (No. 1:14-cv-01733)). The lawsuit seeks “any and all logs, reports, or other records” the Washington-based Diplomatic Security Command Center produced between September 10, 2012, and September 13, 2012, relating to the terrorist attack on the U.S. compound in Benghazi, Libya.”

The documents detail that only three hours after the initial attack on U.S. personnel in Benghazi, the White House contacted YouTube in an apparent effort to initially blame the assault on an obscure “Pastor John video,” rather than filmmaker Nakoula “Mark” Basseley Nakoula. The administration falsely claimed that Nakoula’s video, “Innocence of Muslims,” provoked the attack.  The email also references the involvement of then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton (Judicial Watch, through separate litigation, previously uncovered documents that show Obama White House officials set Hillary Clinton’s Benghazi response):

AMBASSADOR STEVEN’S EMAILS ASKING FOR ADDITIONAL SECURITY REVEALED

Wednesday, October 21st, 2015

Trey Gowdy Amazed 7 Congressional Committees Failed to get Amb Stevens Emails

120912102229-john-christopher-stevens-3-story-top
Trey Gowdy expressed amazement that 7 congressional committees investigating Benghazi failed to request and read emails sent and received by the Late Ambassador Stevens.  Considering the information contained in those emails, it was a major oversight not gaining possession of them.  Almost to the day he took over in Libya, Stevens was requesting additional security for the compound in Benghazi.
“How did they miss Ambassador Stevens’ emails? None of the seven previous committees bothered to access the emails of our ambassador.”
One striking thing you see when inspecting the emails is that the ambassador and Hillary didn’t email each other.  In June of 2012, Ambassador Stevens began requesting additional security at the compound, but the emails he was receiving from staffers at the State Department were requests on ways to spin the fact that Obama’s interference in Libya created a power vacuum that allowed terrorists to take control of large chunks of the country.  So their priority was spin not security.
Gowdy has referenced the emails when democrats who lie like Elijah Cummings claim the investigation  has not  produced anything new and  shoot off their mouths to their willing dupes in the press.  These emails give us a much better understanding what was going on in the State Dept.
The Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, the House Committee on Armed Services, the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, the House Committee on the Judiciary, and the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform have all investigated the attack.
Gowdy explained the importance of these emails:
“If we want a window into Libya and what was happening in the weeks and months before these four were killed, why would you not look at the ambassador’s emails? He was a prolific emailer,”
Besides the Stevens’ emails, the committee has obtained an additional 50,000 pages of documents on Benghazi, including a large cache of emails from Hillary.  Gowdy also pointed out that on the day of the attack, the State Department asked Stevens to confirm the information Blumenthal sent Hillary.
Reminds me of the old Ted Mack television show, “Amateur Hour.”

HILLARY’S ‘OWNERSHIP’ OF LIBYA

Monday, September 21st, 2015
THE WASHINGTON TIMES

Hillary’s ‘ownership’ of Libya

The North African nation is no longer a place to boast about
– – William C. Triplett II is a former chief Republican counsel to the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

Thursday, September 3, 2015

“This is basically off the top of my head, with a few consultations of my notes. but it shows [Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s] leadership/ownership/stewardship of this country’s Libya policy from start to finish. — Aug. 21, 2011 email from State Department Director of Policy Planning Jake Sullivan to Cheryl D. Mills, chief of staff to Secretary of State Clinton.
Jake Sullivan has been called to testify before the House Select Committee on Benghazi on Friday. He left the State Department with Mrs. Clinton. He is now the chief national security aide for the Clinton campaign. According to Politico, the Clinton campaign has told a “group of ‘Hillblazers’ that it would soon start getting regular policy briefings via conference calls with one of Clinton’s closest policy aides, Jake Sullivan.” He is the inside-the-Beltway odds-on favorite to be national security adviser if Mrs. Clinton is elected president in 2016.
Leaving aside Mr. Sullivan’s enthusiasm for his boss in 2011, what is the Libya today of which Mrs. Clinton would have total “leadership/ownership/stewardship,” if she were to claim possession?
The story begins on June 4, 2009, with President Obama’s speech at Cairo University, which the White House website still calls “A New Beginning.” In that time frame, President Obama was riding high in the polls, he had huge Democratic majorities in the House and Senate, and by October it would be announced that he had been selected to receive the Nobel Peace Prize. Under these circumstances, it would be hard for anyone to keep his feet on the ground.
While not havens of human rights virtue, in June 2009 the Middle East and North Africa was more or less stable. al Qaeda had been defeated in Iraq. Energetic local governments had marginalized most Muslim extremist organizations. Col. Moammar Gadhafi had seen the light and was cooperating with the United States on control of extremists and weapons of mass destruction proliferation. Religious minorities, especially Christians, were protected. Antiquities were respected as part of the region’s cultural heritage. There were no civil wars, no mass killings, no widespread destruction of homes, no new waves of refugees. There was at least some measure of hope for millions of people.
All of that changed after President Obama’s Cairo speech. The Egyptian government was overthrown and a Muslim Brotherhood regime installed, lasting until the Egyptian people demanded that the army restore order. Withdrawing U.S. forces from Iraq resulted in a vacuum that the Islamic State was happy to fill. A demand that “Assad must go” led to civil war, with ISIS now in the suburbs of Damascus. Christians and other religious minorities who had remained in the region for more than a thousand years are now under intense persecution — killed, enslaved, and houses of worship destroyed. Waves of refugees are pouring into Europe. Hundreds of thousands of people from Iraq to North Africa have been killed. More lost their homes and wander aimlessly in their own countries.
And then there is Libya. As Mr. Sullivan was writing in August 2011, the country was descending into chaos. By October, Gadhafi was dead and by September 2012 so, too, were the U.S. ambassador to Libya and three other Americans.
Libya today is a failed state.

The 2006 census of Libya listed the population at 6.6 million people. About 9 percent of the population, 550,000 Libyans, are “internally displaced,” which is the nice way of saying they have lost their homes and are wandering the country seeking help where they can find it. In U.S. terms that would be about the equivalent of something in excess of 30 million Americans losing their homes. There are no reliable estimates of how many Libyans have been killed, maimed or made orphans since Mr. Sullivan’s August 2011 email.

With rampant lawlessness in the country, the human wolves have thrived, putting desperate refugees by the hundreds into overcrowded and unseaworthy boats. The Libyan Red Crescent patrols the beaches and buries the bodies by the dozens that wash ashore.

ISIS has made Libya its North African headquarters. Tunisian radicals trained in Libya have made two attacks on tourists in Tunis that killed more than 60 people. Gadhafi’s depots of conventional arms have been looted and the contents distributed widely. Out of total despair, Libyan politicians have begged the Arab League to send warplanes to bomb their own country.

A member of Congress can ask any question he or she likes. Perhaps the Benghazi Committee could revisit August 2011 and ask Mr. Sullivan why he thought Mrs. Clinton had total “leadership/ownership/stewardship” of Libya policy. Further, he could be asked whether, in the light of the current situation in Libya, her “stewardship” has been positive or negative for the people of Libya?
