WHAT’S BEHIND THE PUSH FOR ELECTRIC VEHICLES?

Tuesday, February 28th, 2023

The negatives for EV’s just keep piling up. The possibility  that forces to be would be able to curtail our movements by shutting down or limiting our access to the electric grid just never occurred to me ! Sounds crazy, I know, but look how easy it was to lock down our  economy and severely limit our activities for two years just by using fear.     Nancy
EXCERPT FROM THIS ARTICLE:

This coerced conversion plan is clearly a disaster if the goal is to provide the American people a better way to travel.  But what if the goal is something other than converting to a “better mousetrap?” Could it be that a coalition of globalists, environmental fundamentalists, and totalitarian-leaning politicians are conspiring to limit the freedom of Americans and control their ability to move about? After all, it is a lot easier to shut down, curtail, or monitor a centrally managed electric grid than it is to close 115,000 gas stations. Americans might want to wake up and think about the risks of buying into the virtue-signaling conversion to EVs.  The way of life that we have enjoyed for over a century may very well be at stake.

What’s behind the push for electric vehicles?

The modern internal combustion engine is an engineering marvel.  These power plants run incredibly clean.  According to the EPA, overall gasoline car tailpipe emissions are now about 98–99% less than for cars in the 1960s.  Many current gas-powered cars get well over 35 miles per gallon and have highway ranges of over 500 miles.  Refueling takes five minutes, and there are 115,000 gasoline stations in the U.S.

So why the huge push by the U.S. government to convert to electric vehicles?  It is curious, given that E.V.s are actually inferior to gas vehicles for most uses.  (Perhaps a case could be made for hybrid vehicles in short-range, high-density urban settings.)  Also, beyond vehicle performance, there are other serious negative side-effects of this E.V. conversion.  To recap, here are some of the problems with widespread conversion to E.V.s:

Environmental Damage — Several studies have shown that when factoring in the production process and electricity generation needed to charge the batteries, E.V. conversion can be more damaging to the environment that gas vehicles.

Rare Earth Mineral Mining Problems — The mining of rare earth minerals such as lithium and cobalt for E.V. batteries causes a great deal of environmental damage.  Much of this is done in foreign counties that don’t have good environmental oversight.  Furthermore, to meet the international goal of two billion E.V.s by 2050 would require triple the amount of annual lithium currently mined for all purposes.  Disposal of spent batteries can have toxic environmental effects, and mitigation of this issue hasn’t been thought through or planned.

Victor Davis Hanson: The Chinese Spy Balloon, Orwellian Newspeak, and the Top-Down Revolution Engulfing America

American Thought Leaders

AMERICAN THOUGHT LEADERS

JAN JEKIELEK

“I’m just bewildered that these two evil regimes are so asymmetrically treated as we saw with the balloon … Had Russia done that, we would have shot that down the moment it got near the Aleutians,” says Victor Davis Hanson, a classicist, military historian, and author of a number of best-selling books, including most recently “The Dying Citizen.”

In this broad-ranging interview, we discuss the Chinese spy balloon, Orwellian newspeak, and the woke revolution he sees gripping America.

“When they were trapped about the balloon, the new Soviet talking point came: ‘Balloons came in during Trump. Trump ignored them. Trump ignored balloons.’ And that talking point, it was sort of like the old Roman maxim that a lie travels around the world before the truth can catch up. And that’s how they operate.”

Unlike the protests of the 1960s, this current woke revolution “was staged from the top,” Hanson says. “The left was not marching on the Pentagon. The left was not marching on the campus administrator. The left was not marching on Anaconda Copper or I.T.T. as they had been. They were inside the boardroom. They were inside the president’s office. They were inside the FBI. They were inside the CIA. They were inside the Pentagon.”

Ultimately, we are witnessing the unraveling of Western civilization, Hanson says.

“It’s actually an attack on meritocracy, and the whole empirical system of hiring the most qualified better person for the stability and success of society … Where this ultimately goes … it means that, as you see in Cuba or Venezuela or Colombia, very successful societies start to break down and they can’t deliver the essentials of life because they have a commissariat, a commissar system of ideology trumping empiricism,” Hanson says.

BIDEN AND THE OIL INDUSTRY

Saturday, February 18th, 2023

Joe Biden only hates oil and gas because he doesn’t understand them

 Editorial   February 9, 2023

n a particularly weird passage of his uninspiring State of the Union address, President Joe Biden went off script and, in contravention of his administration’s policy, called for more oil and gas to be extracted from the Earth.

“Have you noticed Big Oil just reported its profits? Record profits,” Biden said disparagingly. “Last year, they made $200 billion in the midst of a global energy crisis. … Why? They invested too little of that profit to increase domestic production.”

A BANAL FAILURE OF A STATE OF THE UNION

Biden proceeded to argue that the United States needs to pump more crude out of the ground. Perhaps sensing the bizarre contradiction between this and his administration’s oil and gas policies, he then went off script with this: “And when I talked to a couple of them, they say, ‘We’re afraid you’re going to shut down all the oil wells and all the oil refineries anyway, so why should we invest in them?’ I said, ‘We’re going to need oil for at least another decade.’ And that’s going to exceed—”

At this point, Biden was rightly interrupted by derisive laughter from the audience. Seemingly in response, he broke off his next sentence and stated, “And beyond that,” apparently meaning to say oil has at least a little bit longer than 10 years.

If Biden were correct about there being one more decade for oil, it would undermine his demand that companies invest in further production. It would be ridiculous to spend billions of dollars in the lengthy process of oil exploration if the oil economy was going to disappear so soon. Why spend billions if petroleum products will be out of use too soon to make the investment worthwhile?

Biden is, of course, completely off-base with his time estimate. He and his administration are so high on ideology and so low on real-world understanding that they are functionally innumerate. They foresee a quick transition from fossil fuels but have no idea how that can be achieved or how soon.

The U.S. Energy Information Administration projects that domestic oil consumption in 2050 will be more than 10% higher than it is today, and that is probably a lowball estimate. If you are curious whether such a result could come from an aggressive push to put more electric vehicles on the road, think again — or look at the example of Norway, which increased its share of electric vehicles from 1% to 20% between 2014 and 2021. Chemical engineer Robert Rapier recently wrote in Forbes that even this dramatic change resulted in only an 8% cut in Norway’s oil consumption over the same period.

This is like telling environmental activists that Santa isn’t real.

INVESTORS PRESSURE EUROPEAN BANKS TO STOP FINANCING NEW FOSSIL FUEL PROJECTS

Wednesday, February 15th, 2023

Europe may go dark from sheer stupidity
Investors Pressure European Banks To Stop Financing New Fossil Fuel Projects
A group of investors representing over $1.5 trillion in assets under management sent demand letters on Feb. 7 to five of Europe’s biggest banks, calling on them to stop financing fossil fuel firms by the end of 2023.
The 30 investors, ShareAction said, each wrote to at least one of the five European banks—Barclays, BNP Paribas, Credit Agricole, Deutsche Bank, and Societe Generale. Twenty of them wrote to all five.
The letter went on to say that so far, 11 out of the top 25 “biggest European banks now have some form of asset financing restriction for new oil and gas,” including BBVA, ING, Lloyds Banking Group, and UniCredit.

HOW AMERICA TOOK OUT THE NORD STREAM PIPELINE

Monday, February 13th, 2023

Seymour Hersh is arguably one of the last remaining relentless American investigative journalists. With a warrior spirit, he has a long history of breaking open some of the most important, carefully sourced investigations of the repeated malfeasance of the US Imperial Administrative State and its’ intelligence and military crimes. The very names associated with his journalistic revelations are historic. My Lai. Abu Ghraib. The list of his breaking stories which blew the cover on US Government misdeeds is enormous. This guy is a national treasure. And now he has ferreted out the details and spoken the truth which all who are politically astute knew but none could speak for fear of retaliation by the CIA and captured global media. But here it is, yet another story of illegal activities.

How America Took Out The Nord Stream Pipeline

The New York Times called it a “mystery,” but the United States executed a covert sea operation that was kept secret—until now

The U.S. Navy’s Diving and Salvage Center can be found in a location as obscure as its name—down what was once a country lane in rural Panama City, a now-booming resort city in the southwestern panhandle of Florida, 70 miles south of the Alabama border. The center’s complex is as nondescript as its location—a drab concrete post-World War II structure that has the look of a vocational high school on the west side of Chicago. A coin-operated laundromat and a dance school are across what is now a four-lane road.

The center has been training highly skilled deep-water divers for decades who, once assigned to American military units worldwide, are capable of technical diving to do the good—using C4 explosives to clear harbors and beaches of debris and unexploded ordinance—as well as the bad, like blowing up foreign oil rigs, fouling intake valves for undersea power plants, destroying locks on crucial shipping canals. The Panama City center, which boasts the second largest indoor pool in America, was the perfect place to recruit the best, and most taciturn, graduates of the diving school who successfully did last summer what they had been authorized to do 260 feet under the surface of the Baltic Sea.

Last June, the Navy divers, operating under the cover of a widely publicized mid-summer NATO exercise known as BALTOPS 22, planted the remotely triggered explosives that, three months later, destroyed three of the four Nord Stream pipelines, according to a source with direct knowledge of the operational planning.

Two of the pipelines, which were known collectively as Nord Stream 1, had been providing Germany and much of Western Europe with cheap Russian natural gas for more than a decade. A second pair of pipelines, called Nord Stream 2, had been built but were not yet operational. Now, with Russian troops massing on the Ukrainian border and the bloodiest war in Europe since 1945 looming, President Joseph Biden saw the pipelines as a vehicle for Vladimir Putin to weaponize natural gas for his political and territorial ambitions.

Asked for comment, Adrienne Watson, a White House spokesperson, said in an email, “This is false and complete fiction.” Tammy Thorp, a spokesperson for the Central Intelligence Agency, similarly wrote: “This claim is completely and utterly false.”

Biden’s decision to sabotage the pipelines came after more than nine months of highly secret back and forth debate inside Washington’s national security community about how to best achieve that goal. For much of that time, the issue was not whether to do the mission, but how to get it done with no overt clue as to who was responsible.

THE COUP WE NEVER KNEW – VICTOR DAVIS HANSON

VICTOR DAVIS HANSON: The Coup We Never Knew

January 5, 2023 By Victor Davis Hanson

Did someone or something seize control of the United States?

What happened to the U.S. border? Where did it go? Who erased it? Why and how did 5 million people enter our country illegally? Did Congress secretly repeal our immigration laws? Did President Joe Biden issue an executive order allowing foreign nationals to walk across the border and reside in the United States as they pleased?

Since when did money not have to be paid back? Who insisted that the more dollars the federal government printed, the more prosperity would follow? When did America embrace zero interest? Why do we believe $30 trillion in debt is no big deal?

When did clean-burning, cheap, and abundant natural gas become the equivalent to dirty coal? How did prized natural gas that had granted America’s wishes of energy self-sufficiency, reduced pollution, and inexpensive electricity become almost overnight a pariah fuel whose extraction was a war against nature? Which lawmakers, which laws, which votes of the people declared natural gas development and pipelines near-criminal?

Was it not against federal law to swarm the homes of Supreme Court justices, to picket and to intimidate their households in efforts to affect their rulings? How then with impunity did bullies surround the homes of Justices Brett Kavanaugh, Samuel Alito, Amy Coney Barrett, Neil Gorsuch, John Roberts, and Clarence Thomas – furious over a court decision on abortion? How could these mobs so easily throng our justices’ homes, with placards declaring “Off with their d—s”?

ELECTRIC VEHICLES – WHY SO FEW PEOPLE WANT ONE

Sunday, September 11th, 2022

THE WALL STREET JOURNAL

Policies Pushing Electric Vehicles Show Why Few People Want One

They wouldn’t need huge subsidies to sell if they really were a good choice, and consumers know that.

by Bjorn Lomborg  Mr. Lomborg is president of the Copenhagen Consensus, a visiting fellow at Stanford University’s Hoover Institution and author of “False Alarm: How Climate Change Panic Costs Us Trillions, Hurts the Poor, and Fails to Fix the Planet.” September 9, 2022

We constantly hear that electric cars are the future—cleaner, cheaper and better. But if they’re so good, why does California need to ban gasoline-powered cars? Why does the world spend $30 billion a year subsidizing electric ones?

In reality, electric cars are only sometimes and somewhat better than the alternatives, they’re often much costlier, and they aren’t necessarily all that much cleaner. Over its lifetime, an electric car does emit less CO2 than a gasoline car, but the difference can range considerably depending on how the electricity is generated. Making batteries for electric cars also requires a massive amount of energy, mostly from burning coal in China. Add it all up and the International Energy Agency estimates that an electric car emits a little less than half as much CO2 as a gasoline-powered one.

The climate effect of our electric-car efforts in the 2020s will be trivial. If every country achieved its stated ambitious electric-vehicle targets by 2030, the world would save 231 million tons of CO2 emissions. Plugging these savings into the standard United Nations Climate Panel model, that comes to a reduction of 0.0002 degree Fahrenheit by the end of the century.

Electric cars’ impact on air pollution isn’t as straightforward as you might think. The vehicles themselves pollute only slightly less than a gasoline car because their massive batteries and consequent weight leads to more particulate pollution from greater wear on brakes, tires and roads. On top of that, the additional electricity they require can throw up large amounts of air pollution depending on how it’s generated. One recent study found that electric cars put out more of the most dangerous particulate air pollution than gasoline-powered cars in 70% of U.S. states. An American Economic Association study found that rather than lowering air pollution, on average each additional electric car in the U.S. causes additional air-pollution damage worth $1,100 over its lifetime.

The minerals required for those batteries also present an ethical problem, as many are mined in areas with dismal human-rights records. Most cobalt, for instance, is dug out in Congo, where child labor is not uncommon, specifically in mining. There are security risks too, given that mineral processing is concentrated in China.

Victor Davis Hanson: FBI Should Be Broken Up, Agents Moved to Other Departments
American Thought Leaders

AMERICAN THOUGHT LEADERS

JAN JEKIELEK

“When you have an agency that has gone rogue and is interfering at the highest level of the country to affect an election; and the directors of those agencies are willing to alter or leak documents that they shouldn’t or lie under oath to federal investigators or lie to a committee by claiming amnesia; and they oversee a bureau that will wipe clean phone records that are under subpoena; or they will not prosecute one person, but they will another; then it’s institutionalized. And you’ve got to get rid of it.”

The FBI should be broken up and its primary functions shifted to other departments of the federal government, argues classicist, political commentator, and military historian Victor Davis Hanson.

He’s the author of “The Dying Citizen” and “The Case for Trump.”

The FBI’s armed raid on Mar-a-Lago is unprecedented, Hanson says, and it’s the latest in a war being waged against the former president, from the Russia collusion hoax to impeachment proceedings against him—twice.

“We’re in a revolutionary cycle where the left has now said, under the pretext that Donald Trump is so extraordinarily threatening to the Republic, that it requires any means necessary to end him. And therefore we’re going to do things that are revolutionary.”

U.S. MILITARY RECRUITMENT IS IN FREEFALL

Thursday, June 30th, 2022

This is a frightening article as our national security is being threatened.  Nancy

Thanks To Leftist Corruption, U.S. Military Recruiting Is In Total Freefall

By Chuck DeVore   June 29, 2022    Chuck DeVore is vice president of national initiatives at the Texas Public Policy Foundation, a former California legislator, special assistant for foreign affairs in the Reagan-era Pentagon, and a lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Army (retired) Reserve. He’s the author of two books, “The Texas Model: Prosperity in the Lone Star State and Lessons for America,” and “China Attacks,” a novel.

Amid the first conventional war in Europe since 1945 and China’s massive military buildup — including nuclear weapons — the U.S. military is experiencing a dangerous drop in its warfighting capability. The U.S. Army, the largest service, has only reached 40 percent of its recruiting goal with just more than three months remaining in the fiscal year.

This military decay will continue under President Joe Biden’s disastrous anti-leadership and likely will take many years of concerted effort to reverse. Further, combined with the chaotic defeat in Afghanistan, America’s ability to deter its enemies from taking hostile action is at a low not seen since the late 1970s, making a major war far more likely.

There are three growing signs of trouble: an alarming collapse in recruiting, a profoundly unserious national security leadership, and weakness in the military supply chain and procurement.
Recruiting Collapse

The military is facing its most severe staffing crisis since the advent of the all-volunteer force in 1973. In March, the Department of Defense (DoD) announced it would reduce its active-duty end strength by 0.2 percent to a little more than 2.1 million. Pentagon comptroller Michael McCord assured us that it’s “not about making the force bigger. We’re looking at making the force more capable.” But only three months later, word broke that every branch in the military is having trouble meeting its recruiting goals.

The problem with lithium-ion batteries

January 31, 2022
Everything from your smartphone to cordless vacuum cleaner uses a lithium-ion battery, and demand is growing as more electric vehicles hit the market. The issue is that there is only so much lithium on the earth, and we may be running out. So what does this mean for the future?
