The liberal romance with Fidel Castro

There appears to be an awful lot of sympathy for the devil out there these days.

The death of Fidel Castro, a mass murderer masquerading as a “president,” exposed the bizarre romance liberals have with tyrants. Many world leaders expressed condolences to the Cuban people upon the death of their so-called leader, a man who oversaw the murder of tens of thousands, imprisoned political opponents, gays, anyone who challenged Castro’s status quo.

There is no religious freedom in Cuba — there was room for only one god and that was Fidel. There was no free press, of course, no personal freedom, only fear. The actual number of those killed by the Castro brothers and their murderous associate Che Guevara can never be known only because of the number of disappeared opponents, gays, academics and the educated.

As with Joseph Stalin, Castro needed to purge the country of anyone who might be able to educate the people about what was really happening and how they could resist and take their country back. Communication and information, to this day, remain out of reach for the Cuban people — as does their freedom.

But even Pope Francis, yes, a liberal but also a man of faith and an Argentinian who understands what Castro did to the Cuban people, sent his “condolences” to the people of Cuba over the “sad news” of Castro’s death.

That’s like sending a sympathy card to the families of Ted Bundy’s victims after Bundy was executed.

“Pope Francis sent a telegram to Cuban President Raul Castro Saturday, expressing his ‘sentiments of sorrow’ over the death of Raul’s brother, former Cuban dictator Fidel Castro,” Breitbart News reported. ” ‘On receiving the sad news of the death of your dear brother, His Excellency Mister Fidel Alejandro Castro Ruz, former president of the State Council and of the Government of the Republic of Cuba, I express my sentiments of sorrow to Your Excellency and other family members of the deceased dignitary, as well as to the people of this beloved nation,’ the pope’s Spanish-language telegram reads.”

On the other hand, Donald Trump, the president-elect of the United States, took the genuinely moral position: “Today, the world marks the passing of a brutal dictator who oppressed his own people for nearly six decades. Fidel Castro’s legacy is one of firing squads, theft, unimaginable suffering, poverty and the denial of fundamental human rights. While Cuba remains a totalitarian island, it is my hope that today marks a move away from the horrors endured for too long, and toward a future in which the wonderful Cuban people finally live in the freedom they so richly deserve,” stated the incoming president.

Who knew that Mr. Trump would say the things that the pope should have said? Finally, someone is speaking the truth, providing proof to the decent people of the world that, no, they’re not going insane because they think terrorists and tyrants deserve to be dead and relegated to the dustbin of history.

But sympathy for the devil is nothing new for the left, as liberal theory itself is rooted in the notion that humanity is bad and must be controlled. This lauding of evildoers while simultaneously demanding “safe spaces” from any perceived offense of insult highlights the psychopathology driving today’s liberal agenda.

Case in point: On Tuesday an Islamist terrorist at Ohio State University seriously injured 11 people in a murderous rampage involving his car and a butcher knife. He was only stopped because a heroic campus police officer happened to be close by investigating a gas leak and was able to shoot the maniac within a minute of the assault.

While CNN tweets that investigators “continue to search for a motive,” an effort dictated by political correctness, it shouldn’t take long. The attacker, an Islamist Somali refugee, posted on Facebook complaints about how Muslims are treated worldwide, praised al Qaeda leaders and then threatened America.

Just two months ago, the Islamic State terror group told followers to use their cars and knives in attacks on Americans. Also two months ago in a campus newspaper profile, the OSU terrorist issued a variety of grievances, including complaints about how he’d like to pray in public but was worried about how that would be perceived on campus.

A culture of grievance used as an excuse for terrorism and murder. And how did an OSU assistant director of residence life respond to the attempted murder of almost a dozen people on that campus? More grievance. The Daily Caller reported on her Facebook page (which sports a “Black Lives Matter” headline banner), where she apparently urged sympathy for the attacker.

The Daily Caller noted it was unable to independently verify the authenticity of the post but in a screenshot of the alleged post, she tells her followers to not share it, apparently aware of how it would be perceived, then writes in part, “If you think it is okay to celebrate his death and/or share a photo of his dead body and I see it in my timeline I will unfriend you. I pray you find compassion for his life, as troubled as it clearly was … . #BuckeyeStrong #BlackLivesMatter #SayHisName”

In the meantime, OSU has instituted a variety of “safe zone” projects for the usual protected liberal identity groups “combating homophobia, heterosexism and transphobia.” The campus administration also began to use the notion of “safe zones” to shut down student protests, claiming they “scared” university workers.

So as the university was gazing at its navel, working diligently to demonize speech that might hurt someone’s feelings, the same sort of liberal mentality argues for sympathy and understanding of an attempted mass murderer.

If anyone is still wondering why the world is rejecting liberals and the left worldwide, your answer can be found in praise for a murderous tyrant like Fidel Castro and sympathy for a man who plots mass murder on a campus.
